that parking garage is only a couple of floors deep, though; and a hole for it may have already existed from the Lorne Building (never went into the old Lorne)

I just noticed this but apparently in the FAQ in the website it gives its best estimate of when tenants can move in "Claridge Icon is expected to be completed April 2020." jeez

That doesn't seem out-of-line to me for something so tall. They aren't even out of the ground yet.

That's actually not bad! If they can get it ready to open by April 2020 then it will be at full height circa Spring 2019, less than two years.

The challenge with a building this tall is that they need to get all the way to the top before they can even begin installing mechanical like domestic water supply, HVAC, sprinklers, etc. I suspect that once they are above any nearby obstacles they will progress at a rate of a floor a week and close in. I also suspect there will be delays on fitting up the interior because of the delays getting mechanical online.

Having no one die while a building is under construction tends to speed things up a bit, in comparison.

Not really. Rough in of mechanical and electrical starts on the lower floors as the forming crews move up floor by floor, as well as metal studs, drywall, glazing, exterior finish etc. Before occupancy starts on the lower floors, yes the building will need to be topped off but that doesn't stop progress on the finishing aspects of a residential building.

But how would this differ when buying a condo unit where grandma Pearl died, or buying a house where someone else passed away? I guess if you are aware of a death such as this unfortunate incident, it would make you second guess, but when you purchase an existing unit or house, you have no idea if your house had someone die in it unless it was news worthy.

Add in the fire they had plus the tower crane issues, that all contributes to major delays.

Assuming the new rendering is the north side of the building, they made some changes. Originally there weren't as many balconies. This looked a lot better. Like something you'd find in a modern big city.
