Honestly just seems like they won't part with it so they can say/brag about supporting or owning part of the trail. It's silly since the Feds are 1/3 owners of The Forks anyway.
I agree. The way to get this resolved is for citizens to start phoning complaints to the Federal regional minister's office. That would be Jim Carr. I know from many years of experience that local federal offices respond very seriously to any suggestions from a regional minister or their senior staff (in this case a guy like Bill Balan). I would do it myself but they know me too well

NDP MLA Nahanni Fontaine is reporting on cbc.ca (and she posted on her Facebook page) that she was filmed going to the washroom at Johnson Terminals. Once that gets exploded, many families will be avoiding the area. Not mine, but you know how poor publicity like this will hurt.

I don't think it will affect much of anything at all.

Hope not... not sure what you can do in pretty much any area to avoid someone sliding a phone under a door. Obviously a crappy situation, but it's not like the Johnston Terminal is known as "camera corner" or something.

Lol. Sucks with the way it's positioned though that the hideous stage will be in so many photos. Can someone pony up and get naming rights at least so they can cover the top again

Yeah, seriously... same typeface and everything. Feds should just order the letters in bulk to save money and just send the letters out as needed... WINNIPEG... BRANDON... RIVERTON ... ELMA...

Not a bad concept but a little too 'me too'

Yeah, would have been sweet to do something a little more unique, maybe even our actual city font/logo... although it could use updating.

Jordan is doing a good job at the Forks I think. I do have one little concern though. He seems to have an affinity for small pieces sprinkled throughout the site (eg mmaw monument, alloway monument, tons of new signage around the river walk, his proposed monument for the homeless hero, the cool gardens, future statues that I believe are in the long term plan, etc). each of these items has merit, but if you overdo it the site can start to feel cluttered and, to some extent, junky. Stop now Paul!

The stage really does look awful.

Can they not fix it up and maintain it, light it up or something and yes, please cover the top. If they cant get sponsors, at least affix a Forks banner there.

The stage was fine when it first went up and there was nothing much around there, but it just looks out of place now. But I suppose The Forks still needs it to host big outdoor events.

Incidentally, that stage is an Etienne Gaboury design...

I'm not sure why people want to tarp it over. It looks better with the exposed structure up top.

Yes the concrete piles are pretty terrible, but the top just looks sort of the 'high-tech modern' style that IKOY did a lot of locally.

The Forks wants to replace it, likely leaving it ugly so people will complain and they get some money hahaha.

Joking and visual appeal aside, it's actually not even a functional structure. It's not even a stage, TFNP wants to replace it with a properly functioning stage. It was designed for medal ceremonies for the Pan Am Games, and is more of a self-contained amphitheatre. Any time there's any sort of show there, they either build a temporary stage inside it, covering the stairs, or just bring in a proper stage and stick it in front (Interstellar Rodeo). Really it's only functional aspects now are that it blocks rain and you can hang lights from it - other than that, kinda useless.

Looks like they are now putting up a Canada Games banner on the stage so thats nice.

Also I dont think ive ever noticed that its not actually a stage! I didnt even know there were concrete seats there. Everytime Ive been they've had a real stage set up under it and I thought that was the permanent set up. Go figure.

Guess I should go to the Forks more often.

In the winter, you can skate right into and under the 'stage'.

Thats a huge upgrade for something that gets used like 2-3 times a year.

I'm no Forks expert but I know aboriginal day has it locked, Canada Day and then the rare occasions like the Pan Am and Canadian Summer Games.

But hey i'm always down for upgrades
