I don't think I've ever seen a sizeable development where the lower levels are fully-finished while the upper levels are still doing the concrete forms. It just seems inefficient. On the flipside, I would imagine that because of the complexity of each floor here, there is a long lag time between each floor being formed, so in this case it probably is actually more sensible to have the individual trades come in and do what they can on whichever floors are ready.

Will also be interesting to see how even and level that concrete pour is on that tilted roof. It must be a little tricky to pour a thick wall on such a large gradient, and not end up with uneven patches.

Glad to see the triangle-shaped retail-office building dig is moving fast. That's quite a deep parking dig for a relatively short building. I guess they anticipate lots of cars for the new commercial neighbourhood in the future.

Thanks for the updates! You can really start to get a sense of how the project will nicely fill in this area. I just hope under the overpasses won't become all grey and dingy.

I'm kinda surprised they are attaching all the outer materials considering the concrete is so fresh and the majority of the tower above is yet to be poured. There will be a lot of downward compression on those first few floors as they cure and more weight is added above. The materials they are attaching now may buckle somewhat over the next year as it tops out.

how did this get approved by Meggs and NoVision who want to tear down the younger Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts to "make them (concord) whole" so more unaffordable DTES waterfront condos can be built?

funny thing is, Vision did look at tearing the Granville Street Bridge down and replacing it with a much smaller structure. but the report came in at ~$1 billion all said and done. so that was abandoned. they say a bridge that large isn't needed, and the study proves they'd get rid of it if it was affordable.

the viaducts are over land, have a price of only ~$200 million, and the replacement is just a surface road. so it is very easy to tear them down compared to the Granville Bridge.

so, they didn't choose to let the building around them happen, it was forced due to cost. makes the building much more interesting though, that's for sure. plus losing those 1 way streets and on/off ramps would be terrible. they carry more traffic then Granville Street itself.

Yeah, I was getting excited too seeing it. Damn that pit still makes my stomach turn while on the bridge. They really didn't go for high railings on the bridge...

I saw many others walking on the bridge stopping by to take photos. It will be a sight to behold once completed, that's for sure.
