I'd be on board with renaming the entire road. I'm not particularly fond of the idea of the road having two different names.

Right up until the point the Stoney cry foul. Then it will be called Loop 201.

Rename Stoney to Tsuutina Trail, Sarcee to Stoney. Problem solved.

TTN should run from the south to the NE corner, and Stony from the NE to the south. Then you have no confusion about arbitrary "go east on Stony Trail" directions, and the sharpish corners provide some reasonable point to change the name.

It should have been only called the 201 from the start. All of our major roads should only be referred to by numbers.

I just don't understand how they didn't see the naming issue coming. Even way back in the 90s when the first section was built, was it not known the SW leg was going to have to go through Tsuut'ina land? They should have just kept it as the 201 until they knew what the final alignment would be. Oh well.

Failing that, I think the entire road renamed is not a bad idea either. At least no businesses would have to reprint stationary, as I don't believe any property has a 'Stoney Trail' address (apart from perhaps Stoney Trail Mazda!)
I like this idea but would go one step further and use the Trans Canada as the separation point for both the east and west sides of Calgary in recognition that the ring road's main purpose is to divert traffic off of 16th Ave. Essentially I think if you're driving the Trans Canada and decide to divert north you should travel your entire diversion on Stoney Trail (201) and if you decide to divert south you should travel your entire diversion on Tsuut'ina Trail (201).

They saw it coming, and there has been plenty of discussion, believe me. It's been discussed at various times since about 2005. Lots of names were thrown around too, especially with the status of the portion through the reserve still being unknown.

This makes the most sense to me.
You could leave the Sarcee name north of the river.

But this ring road is 100% under the control of the province, it is not the city who maintains the ring road.

Even though the road is continuous - the large 90d corners on the East, and future interchanges along the West will make it feel (at least to me) like more of a bunch of connected roads, and system changes, instead of one true ring road. This is how I would rename the ring road.

Blue - 201 - Stoney Trail
Green - 202 - East Freeway / Airdrie Bypass
Yellow - 22X - Marquis of Lorne Trail, Spruce Meadows Trail. This section of the road already has too many names, and it's never felt like Stoney to me..
Red - 208 - Tsuu T'ina Trail

I like this the best. This scheme is very similar to how Interstate 494/694 is named around the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

Concurrent highways 🞵🞵🞵🞵. They're an out for not wanting to fix a greater problem with your highway system. They're needlessly difficult to follow for drivers who aren't familiar with the area, and they add additional complexity to guide signage. I think the idea of having both Henday and Stoney set as 201/216 with no exceptions was a great idea, and I hope they never change that.

I would have preferred if Alberta Transportation had changed 22X to 901 East of Calgary, and left it 22X West of the City. Then you have clear differentiation of highways on the South side of the City with no confusion as to what anything is.

That being said, most of my opinions are bunk on this anyways since many people just rely on GPS to get them places now, so who cares what it says.

I don't follow you...why would it restart? From West to East, it would be 22X at Priddis -> 201 once you hit the ring road -> 901 once the ring road turns North -> 901 ends at Gleichen.

What ever 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 names AB Trans comes up with, if you keep the whole thing as Highway 201 then sane people, navigation systems, and official documents can still refer to it as that. The "201/202/22X/208 Stoney/TTN/East Freeway/Marqius/Spruce Meadows Ring Road" doesn't work.
On the subject of the 901, since I'd never heard of it I looked it up. Wiki says:

Any truth to that still? The evidence the wiki page links to is from 1989.

Aah, how dare I forget that Wikipedia trumps how a government may opt to do something. Shame on me.

Never the less, just call it the 201 and forget about all the names - simple is good. Hell, even the radio traffic announcers have finally learned to provide detail on whether an accident on Stoney at Deerfoot is in the north or south side.

Anyone in the know on how warranty/deficiency items are dealt with on the SE leg?

The portion between 114th Ave and 17th Ave has slumped pretty badly in some places.

I see that some of them have been marked, does that mean a repair is coming soon?

QE2 can get congested at peak times in Airdrie but that is it and with the future overpasses which need to be built pretty much right now a lot of that stress will be removed.
