CoE has been doing a lot of research on how to make pavement last longer, be more impervious to the freeze / thaw cycles that lead to potholes.

So, you're not just seeing things - the pavement is better.

I was at the CoE pavement testing and research building on the south side one of the guys was showing me the different additives that would make the asphalt less brittle.

Plans are in the works for some exterior work. They are well aware of the need to modernize the exterior a little.

Some of the changes look pretty good from the rendering I have been able to see. its been a few months so they may have changed a bit since then.

I hear they used a flawed mix for many many years, during which a critical ingredient had been removed, hence why much of Edmonton's roads have aged so poorly. Fly ash comes to mind, but I could be wrong.

I remember seeing them around the old King Eddy. And I believe they were used at Eatons before the triple 5 mess.

On a side note for you skiers.
Looked at the Sunshine village Web cams. It appears there are fire crews setting up sprinklers around the village. The fire near Mouth Athabasca is moving in that direction.

Also, City proactively doing micro resurfacing more often. This extends the life of the road bed significantly.
