These two are notorious NIMBYs so take it with a grain of salt, but they make some very good points. This one was not well thought-out and was pushed forward by Mason as part of his role as a tool of the Halifax Cycling Coalition. But with a median and lots of space for them to potentially use, instead it was as if they wanted to punish motorists and make it more difficult for them than to actually do anything for the Dalhousie cyclists. It is very wasteful. Another reason for people to oust Mason in this election. This thing needs to be re-thought.

It is a stupid spot for a bike lane. Most of that area is used for pick ups and drop offs and traffic is generally slow and accommodating of bikes and pedestrians.

But it's the pilot because no one was will big to build a proper lane where people actully want and need to use it.

All active transportation users in Halifax should take a look at the updated plans for the MacDonald Bridge Bikeway Connector Project. The scope of the project has expanded to include North Street west to Agricola and Wyse Road north to Albro Lake Road.

I have voiced support for this very important project and made a few recommendations for staff to consider along with filling out the online survey. I personally hope for the flyover to North option due to it's better grade, avoidance of federal property, and lessened traffic conflicts.

Devonshire Avenue's bicycle lanes are now completed. They stretch from Isleville Street down to Barrington Street with a short multi-use trail connecting to Niobe Gate where the Barrington Street Greenway will eventually terminate.

Public mulls revamped bike lanes on South Park

It was a packed house at Halifax Public Library Tuesday night as Haligonians hammered out possible improvements to the bike lane running down South Park Street.

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking to upgrade the existing bike lane on South Park Street and extend it so that it runs south from the Citadel and Sackville Street down to Inglis Street. An updated bike lane plan will be tabled in regional council this spring.

“The municipality has a council-approved active transportation plan and in that plan the number one priority was to build the regional centre bike networks, so that includes the peninsula and South Park Street is part of that network,” said HRM’s David MacIsaac.

Design options under consideration include marked but unprotected bike lanes between parked cars and moving vehicle traffic, placing cycling lanes behind parked vehicles and using them as buffers, or building completely separate bike paths.

Council should just throw bushel baskets full of cash into the harbour. At least then some folks would find bills washed up on the shore and get some use out of them.

It's the trail that runs from North Street / MacDonald Bridge to Cornwallis / Upper Water along Barrington. It's planned to be extended north to Devonshire pending DND approval.

It used to be the Intercolonial Railway that connected the south end with the marshalling yards in the North End. I'm kind of surprised the city has turned so many to "active" paths, seems kind of short sighted to me.

Those rail lines at the moment are not viewed as needed. By turning them to trails, you secure them for future need, if there ever is one, and if the governments can ever change them back.

The cycling lobby will never allow their precious "trails" to be used for anything the majority might find useful.

If Via' commuter rail is a success, more places will want it, and then relaying rail will make sense to enough that it will happen.

Options for the proposed Almon Street bicycle lane have been designed by Halifax staff and will be released next week for public feedback.

"Gottingen Street to Agricola Street - Two travel lanes that have “share the lane” bicycle markings and one side of on-street parking. No separate bicycle lane.

Agricola Street to Dublin Street - Two travel lanes, two bicycle lanes, and one side of on-street parking

Dublin Street to Connaught Avenue - Two travel lanes, two bicycle lanes, and no on-street parking

The Halifax municipality wants to hear feedback on a possible Almon Street bike lane.

The public engagement session will be next Wednesday, May 3 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. in the Maritime Room at the Halifax Forum on the corner of Windsor and Almon streets, according to a HRM release.

The presentation will start at 7 p.m.

THE MACDONALD BRIDGE BIKEWAY HAS REOPENED!!!!!!!

I took a ride across to Dartmouth and back and it was packed full of cyclists. There is some work ongoing at the towers but other than that it is a smooth and wide ride. Now that the lanes are a part of the road deck there is no gap which allows for more weaving room and there is no need for safety netting.

Let's bring on the cyclist overpass and Wyse Road bikeway!

I am very pleased to say the first section of Sackville Greenway is now open!

This section is short and only extends from Sackville Drive to the baseball field on Beaverbank Cross Road. A second phase starting construction later this summer will extend this across the Little Sackville and up to Glendale Drive.
