A little competition is a good thing. They'll lose a few tenants in the short term, and be forced to up their game. Also we're seeing a lot of old and outdated office space repurposed into residential now (ie Sterling building) so if that trend continues I'm not worried.

When new office space downtown is created in a growing city with a growing economy, businesses tend to be attracted to the project, and want to occupy that space, if it's in an ideal location, which in the case of TNS, it is. That's just the way society works, Skippy.

Even in an office market of Winnipeg's relatively small size, there are firms willing and able to pay top dollar to be in a shiny new marquee building. I don't know how they, or the developers catering to them can be faulted for that. It's quite normal for yesterday's top tier buildings to become tomorrow's second-tier buildings... and eventually the ones at the bottom drop off and get demolished to make way for new developments, or they get repurposed into something else. I don't see what the problem is.

$210 a month + tax, for underground at Portage Place... Convention Centre is a few bucks less IIRC. Those are pretty much the standard downtown going rates. Winnipeg Transit will also get you there for $72 a month.

What area are you working in that you pay $70 a month in parking? Unless it's some kind of employer-subsidized deal I can't imagine there are any prices like that left downtown... you'd have to walk a long way to get a price like that.

It's actually healthier to walk 15 minutes. In Calgary, downtown parking is highway robbery, so I just park in a handicapped spot in a Sobeys just outside downtown. My buddy can print and laminate those handicapped parking passes, and even though I am able bodied, I always get away with it, thanks to my walking cane.

Ah OK, then you're just going to have to wrap your head around downtown parking in general! TNS area is not really any more expensive than the rest of downtown.

Although, considering all the new construction in the area over the past decade (Centrepoint, TNS, Manitoba Hydro), I wonder if it's getting to the point where another parkade might be in the not too distant future... perhaps along Donald Street?

Please no. The one at York and Donald is ugly enough. I think a nicely landscaped surface lot would be nicer. Or just put it underground where it belongs.

Well, no one loves a parkade but eventually you do run into the issue of where to put all of the cars. There will be thousands more people a day in the SHED area once TNS is built out... some of them will drive.
