Ya I'm a little blown away by the scale of the whole thing. And no, sadly it's not my pic. Found it on twitter.

I suspect those small shelters will be for the Connexion routes. Since they will have frequent service during peak periods and no service during off peak, they won't be used much.

Route 291 runs every half hour. I guess that is the new definition of frequent.

There will be more regular routes at Hurdman than Connexion routes.

Are the stations having solar panels? So many of them have fancy wings and things that seem like they'd be perfect for solar.

Sorry, I stand corrected (though bus frequencies will increase with time, especially Connexion routes, as they will no longer be constrained by congestion on Albert and Slater). Regardless, if I had a long wait at Hurdman for a bus travelling along the south-eastern Transitway, I probably would either find an alternate route or catch another bus to a more interesting station.

Hmm. You are right. Hurdman is a bit unique that way in that there are a bunch of local routes that funnel their way down the Transitway to Hurdman. Even some of the "Rapid" routes are really just local routes that funnel their way down the Transitway.

Won't hurdman have substantial waiting space in the station itself? On the renders there appears to be a large enclosed waiting area and a large covered (but not enclosed) waiting area. There is also supposed to be some sort of retail at the station.

Good luck trying to run from the station door to the farthest bus stop, though.

Makes me wonder why they didn't just make use of the underside of that structure instead of individual bus shelters. Also makes me wonder why the built the station as high, it's not like it has to clear anything until it curves around over Riverside Drive.

There is an overpass just east of the station, I assume it is there to facilitate future development.

I think there will fewer buses, so I'm not sure how many stops will be in use next year.

There will be fewer buses but with one possible exception, this will be terminus for all bus routes for that part of the city. Therefore, more buses will be lingering and they will have to pick up all passengers that were previously picked up on their trips from downtown.

I suspect we will only see a reduction of couple bus routes at Hurdman (Route numbers 61 and 62 for sure but not much else). Many of the routes that previously passed through Hurdman on the eastern Transitway are now bypassing it.

There will be very few through routes (just the 97 Airport/Tremblay I think) so there will be a lot fewer pickups (routes will pickup at Hurdman once instead of twice, for example).

I don't think the former eastbound routes are coming back (people would take the LRT to St Laurent or Blair).

Ahh. Good point. So while there will be only slightly fewer route numbers, you will only be able to take most of them in one direction (as opposed to the current two directions for many routes) so there will probably be almost half as many stops required.

I was trying to imply that they are already gone, though my wording was admittedly confusing.

And here is the turnaround tunnel, now the OttawaRentABike.

I found on Lost Ottawa's Facebook page a link to the plans for the Plaza Bridge, showing the turnaround tunnel.

Funny that they show the Hull Electric tracks but not the third set of tracks (centre track) that were used by CPR that went straight through to the station.

Were they at a different elevation so as to not cross the loop? If they were below the loop, it is possible that they had no bearing on the bridge design.

No, All three tracks ran together and the Hull Electric tracks had to cross the CPR tracks because the CPR tracks ran through the centre part of the Interprovincial bridge. Here is a picture of tracks approaching the Chateau Laurier.

That friggin' bus loop, though.

Because the people who design Ottawa's transit system don't use transit.

Yes, that loop is pretty tight. They were likely trying to balance the turning radius with minimizing the footprint of the station.

OC Transpo have published an updated map of Hurdman here. From this it looks like there are currently only three stops (B, C and D), one for westbound, one for southbound and one for eastbound routes.

On a different note, I wonder what will happen to the eastern CTC event routes post LRT. I assume the 403 will be truncated at Tunnies Pasture, but what about the 401? Might they re-route it to start at Pleasant Park or Billings Bridge instead of Blair?

The Landsdown event routes will be less affected, but the 451 might be truncated at Hurdman.
