Thanks for all the awesome photo updates, GilmoreStation and McMinsen. Love the shots of the new Burnaby cityscapes as well as the mall area. From GilmoreStation's aerial shots, it looks like there is still a lot more street portion mall area to be built out with the rental tower podium.

Yeah, with beige or yellow-ish color spandrel they could have made the end result look so much more high-end. Similar to watering down Parq Vancouver's great design with inclusion of same cheap spandrel.

I guess, these construction companies don't want to feel proud for their product.

It's all about making BIG money profits (for the project investors/contractors by cutting/shortchanging construction costs, baby)!

Great pics, thanks.

On the south side of the podum, you can see brackets for - presumably - sun shades.

I don't think spandrel color has much effect on the overall of a project of this magnitude.

I'm assuming that you are trying to say above..."I don't think spandrel color has much effect on the overall COST of a project of this magnitude". You may very well be right on this point Jebby,...but then I'm curious as to why then they would seek to "cheapen" the look/feel of their expensive project structures (thus rendering them potentially/relatively less appealing from a marketing/investment resale etc. standpoint)???? What's your take on why they would take such "project diminishing" action?

Also just received in the mail an invite by Shape to the public information meeting for the northwest phase (the one along willingdon) of the development. Forgot the date as to when as I've no plans of attending. Lol!

Cineplex is expanding its adults-only cinema offerings in Metro Vancouver.

The Canadian movie theatre giant is opening two new cinemas — one in West Van and another in Burnaby — that signal its continued march toward more VIP-style service in the company’s expanding local footprint.

Cineplex recently announced plans to build a new 44,000-square-foot cinema at Park Royal shopping centre in West Vancouver. The new theatre on the south side of the mall will have 11 screens, including UltraAVX, D-BOX motion seat technology and three VIP auditoriums. Construction is to start later this year.

Cineplex also announced plans to build another theatre, five auditoriums totalling 20,700-sq.-ft at Brentwood Town Centre plus Cineplex’s first Rec Room location in B.C.

The Rec Room concept includes live entertainment, several dining options, a bar and amusement games. Construction on the building is set to begin later this year with plans to open in 2019.

The new VIP cinemas are part of an shift in the urban movie theatre industry that is increasingly targeting adult crowds with the same movies, without children and with fewer — and more comfortable — seats, more food and alcohol options and higher ticket prices.

...

Park Royal has been without a cinema since the early 2000s, said Rick Amantea, vice-president of community partnerships and development for Park Royal.

...

“Same square footage, same number of auditoriums,” he said. “It’s been a considerable reduction in seating, which from our standpoint, is good because it means less demand on parking and other things.”

He said eight of the auditoriums will be used for regular non-VIP service.

“We still wanted to have a great family experience so the other eight cinemas are more conventional in terms of stadium seating and all age opportunities.”

Rec Room at TAB

Not sure if it's been shared here already before, but here's more info on the Rec Room at TAB. And here. It kinda sounds/reads like a casino minus the slot machines and other gambling. Lol!!

Opens in 2019.

I assume it's for residents who live quite near it (?) and so I got the invites/notice. They expect to hear our concerns etc about the proposed development phase. Sent you both a PM of the info.
