Ura-harajuku ! Basically the backstreets of Harajuku on either side of Omotesando. A lot of nice stores, boutiques and international brands (which you really don't expect to see on such small streets), and a nice mix of modern architecture.

Golden Gai near Shinjuku is also can't miss for late-night drinks. Expensive, but one of the most unique and interesting places in Tokyo imo.

Sorry - when you said the fourth tower, I thought you meant Tower 5 (which will be the fourth). Presumably they're keen to sell the condos while the market remains hot - especially with so many in one tower.

I think they're just skipping tower "four" out of fear of losing sales to Chinese buyers. The first three towers are Brentwood ONE, Brentwood TWO, and Brentwood THREE. They could have named this one "Residences at Brentwood" or something but I guess they want to keep the branding consistent so this will probably marketed as "Brentwood FIVE".

Osirisboy, the first two towers both have rental on the lower half of each building. Are you maybe thinking of the City of Lougheed development? The fourth tower of phase 1 will be a rental tower over there.

I feel too many people here are preoccupied with making every inch of the city a single urban form, which IMO is quite boring and dull (and limiting).

Metrotown could easily become a fantastic urban space while retaining the mall.

For me it actually feels more like a core than Brentwood. Brentwood will have many big towers and a nice new moderately sized mall, but Metrotown will still have more destinations. Love it or hate it but Metropolis is a destination, and it is not of the dying strip mall variety. It also has a healthy mix of office towers, a real city park with a decent sized stadium, etc...
Personally, retail space does not mean much to me. Given the size of Metro I go in and out as fast as I can. Dislike it a lot. I had a choice of the two and decided on the Brentwood area because of it.

As for Brentwood, it is still in its infancy. There is going to be new retail space in 2019 at Brentwood, more offices and retail at Gilmore Place, a high street with shops and eateries along Dawson Street, a new urban park at Concord, the future development of Carters with more retail and office space, and a connection to Burnaby Heights and Confederation Park. Burnaby Lake is also close to Brenwtood as well.

As for the comment about Lougheed and Willingdon being a factor in making Brentwood more suburban, that is laughable when you have Kingsway and Willingdon in Metro along with roughly a 10-lane section near Kingsway and Nelson.

As for the towers I like the fact that the glass is tinted a darker colour. It breaks up the monotony.

Metrotown and Brentwood each have their own charms. And Metrotown was developed several years ahead of Brentwood. It has that advantage and thus resembles a core.. I even I go there to run some errands, at the mall/Station Square. And see all the diversity and the non-cohesive spaces in and outside of the mall. But I absolutely hate the Metrotown Skytrain station before and during construction, and don't stop there if I don't need to. It's one of the reasons I chose and moved to Brentwood area instead.

But, like sburnaby33, in the end I also chose Brentwood, as I have lived in, and like, the North Burnaby area better. I also like the Skytrain station experience better at Brentwood than the madness in Metrotown. Brentwood feels more organized/safe, quieter in a sense, and can be developed better, keeping up with global trends. Better quality of life. So it's also becoming more modern (not sure how else to put it). Perhaps Metrotown was like this at one time, before all its development. And perhaps Gilmore/Solo/Brentwood might get too busy several years down the road (like Metrotown) that some people might decide to move elsewhere/choose another future Brentwood to live in.. Such is life. Hehe!

Also, this thread is about Shape's Brentwood development as per the title, therefore we kinda see many here talk of topics corollary to such structures/environment, i.e., this tri-area that's rapidly developing/urbanizing with these structures low, medium, and high, and also what's perceived as the single urban form (almost unavoidable). But if one goes several pages back in this thread, I distinctly remember the talk about the single family homes in the area and how I for one don't want those to go away as I like that area too and lived in such an area in North Burnaby, at Burnaby Heights up past Hastings, and then later, deciding on the Brentwood area before all realty prices in the area go crazy if hasn't yet at the time already. Lol!

Different folks, different strokes! hehe!

No doubt Brentwood is a younger center compare to Metrotown, but it is maturing fast. It has some merits over than Metrotown: dont have the ethical issue of demoviction to rebuild, more direct connectivity to SFU , Burnaby mountain, quicker access to North shores, the upcoming Linear Park and Concord Brentwood park increase its livability. Linear Park serves a very walkable convenient link to Burnaby Heights which I enjoy . It also has two distinct arterial roads: Lougheed and Dawson which in time will develop into high street without noisy skytrain. Dont forget despite recent property value hike, still has not quite catch up to Metrotown.... hence still has some room for appreciation.

Thanks!

Looks like phased building in that the concrete of the podium is so old (and cured)
that the cladding is being applied while the next floor above is only now being poured.
