They'll need the cable-bucket machine that was used at The Exchange - that was pretty cool, and effective.

Did anyone else ever read this steam shovel book?

Source: https://neelysnews.wordpress.com/2016/02...days-mike-mulligan-and-his-steam-shovel/

And at the end they can't get it out of the pit, so they just turn it into a boiler.

I don't know why, but the above pic reminded me of this book. Have not thought about it for 25 years!

So this page has been changed to U/C thx, but how do we get the diagrams page to make same as they still have Burrard Place as proposed. I've tried to find out which moderator to ask but no luck

You need a database editor for that, not a mod. Not sure who does it for Vancouver but Whippersnapper in the Canada section can probably help you out.

So you guys change title to under construction before it reaches grade? someone should tell that to Manitoba/Sask moderators or is there no real standards for this. By the way I am referring to River landing 1 in Saskatoon

It's all over the place. Ottaw changes it to u/c as soon as the site is fenced off. Toronto sometimes too

there needs to be an "approved" tag. seriously. its a big difference between proposed and approved. it would help with knowing which are dead and which are actually going ahead. and if we had a "cancelled" tag, that would help to.

Approved doesn't mean anything. Planned approved by the developer to submit? Rezoning approved by the city? Financing approved by the banks? Building permit approved by the city? Each of those things needs to happen and we aren't creating titles for all of those. The standard we use works nicely, a project is only proposed until it's actually under construction, you can argue our definition of u/c but it's a common one used thru out the industry. But ask ten economists and...

Yes approved doesn't mean anything but we could use site prep. That way when someone is going through the threads they can see which projects are actually under construction. I dont know why it's so difficult to make another category. There's a huge difference between say first baptist church project and burrard place, which until recently were both listed as "proposed"

well i mean of course city approval. the other ones are irrelevant and you know it. there is a big difference between being approved by the city and being proposed to the city. an example with this is that there is a giant hole here being dug for the last while. but unless you go into the thread and find the photos of it you wont know this is actually moving along. as osirisboy mentioned you'd assume its doing nothing still.

whether approved or site prep, both mean the same thing. i.e. it isn't "U/C" yet but it is more then just an idea. whatever you want to call it that's what i meant, and i am sure you knew it.

Proposed = "this idea can be cancelled/denied by anyone at anytime"
approved/site prep/dealers choice = "this idea has been cleared to start construction"
U/C = "currently being built"
Finished = "being lived in"
Cancelled = "no longer going to happen at this time"

the 4th category is to signify it is more then an idea that could never happen. it shows that the government is allowing it which is generally the only barrier when it comes to building in Vancouver. not always, but close enough.
