Another NHL trade deadline day because of the expansion draft.
Mike Smith traded to Calgary for defenseman Brandon Hickey, goaltender Chad Johnson and a conditional third-round draft choice.
Montreal Canadiens traded defenceman Nathan Beaulieu to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Couple of days ago, Jonathan Drouin from Tampa to Montreal in exchange for defenceman Mikhail Sergachev.
Mike Smith is just another reason to dislike the Flames even more.
The next couple of weeks are gonna be exciting for hockey geeks, starting with the expansion draft and NHL awards tomorrow, then the NHL draft and free agent frenzy.

The Edmonton Oilers and defenceman Kris Russell agreed on a four-year, $16 million deal Friday.
According to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, Russell will make $5 million in the first year of the deal, $4.5 million in the second year, $4 million in the third year and $2.5 million in the final year. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus in Year 1 and $1 million in Year 4.
Rishaug also reported the defenceman has a modified no-trade clause in the last two years of the deal.
Sadly sends the wrong message. You have the new face of the league in YEG, who took home nearly all of the hardware. You have a team that came within 1 win of the conference final. You have a brand new arena. But we'll still pay 4x4 for a 4/5 defenceman and throw in signing bonuses. Give me a break. We should be able to attract that level of talent for a discount at this point. This makes me concerned that we'll never reach the next level.
Its a good contract - front loaded and Russell is a quality defenceman. Now all you complainers out there - stop bitching
Totally agree, he played very well (and he played on his off side). Let's not forget he was the leading shot blocker in the entire league, and that was in playing 68 games.
