I don't think TN owns the Carlton Inn site anymore. They had apparently sold it to Sutton Place Hotels thing and are now basically separate projects. They're using the land for staging for the TNS project.

I'm not sure if that was known before or if I just forgot (likely the latter), but that's certainly encouraging news. I can't imagine Northland would buy a big plot of land downtown with the intention of sitting on it.

Also, nice pic, Biff. I really need to get over to Tavern United's patio just to watch the beehive of activity across the street

There will be a totally different vibe on that patio once it becomes surrounded by buildings!

Its a little dark but the concrete crew was starting to pour the latest floor at 4:30am when I went to the window to see what the weather was like

There are PCL staff there 24 hours a day working. Not as large staff overnight as days but I see a few of them working on the forms etc in the middle of the night.

Evenings depending on what was done during the day can have a fair sized crew on site including one or two of the cranes in use.

Weekends are hit and miss for them working. When I work Sunday day shifts I may or may not see anybody on site.

Sub-trades do not get crane time until after 5:00 PM. So I would wager many of these companies are running an evening shift ie. 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

For as frequently and as often they are working at the site, you think they would have the construction cam up and running again.

as of 5 am on Friday the camera was still bolted to the decorative steel work at the top of BellMTS Place. With all the renovations going on inside of BellMTS Place I wonder if one of the feed cables was cut or unplugged.

Is the entire building going to be a concrete build or will they switch to steel higher up? Seems that it would be faster doing an all steel build rather then use winnipegs extremely over priced concrete.

China used almost 50% more concrete in just 2011-2013 than America used during the ENTIRE 20th century. (citation) But with China's building boom grinding to a halt, that's got to have effect on prices.

With all the activity happening on Graham, it's makes me think [re: hope to hell] the City/Winnipeg Transit have a plan to transform Graham. Upgrade it visually (it's going to be wayyy busier) and functionally. Also, put buffered bike lanes on St. Mary/York. York doesn't need to be 4 damn lanes.

That's in China, where they'll do whatever they want. But yeah China poured more concrete just for their freeway system than the entire world or something.

Steel is also expensive. If steel were cheaper, we'd see more old style steel bridges around. It's cheaper to use concrete. I would assume the same for buildings??

Do we have any update on the LC and TNS? I really hope it happens in some form, because part of me thinks cityplace wants it out so they can use that space to make a grander entrance to the mall from Hargrave. The Shark Club entrance is so weird and awkward, doesn't make you feel like you're going into a mall.
