Stage One of C-Train
Green Line. Cost is $4.65 billion, length is 20 kilometres which will bring the C-Train to 80 kilometres in length. Of note, this line will have the longest section of grade separation on the entire C-Train network at 13 kilometres (equivalent to the length of the OCTranspo Confederation Line phase 1) from 16 Avenue N to Lynnwood Station. This line will have both the longest underground and elevated sections on the C-Train network, hosting 4 underground stations, 3 elevated stations, and 7 ground-level stations. Geotechnical work on the line has already begun, and construction of the line itself will begin in 2019, with opening date targeted for before the start of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games which the city is bidding for. Phase One is the largest single transit infrastructure project in Alberta's history in both length and cost.
Phase Two of the Green Line will be $1.5 billion and is slated to begin construction immediately after Phase One opens, dependent on funding. This phase will be another 20 kilometres, and will complete the total 40-kilometer Green Line route from the farthest northern border of the city to the farthest southern border of the city, putting the C-Train network at 100 kilometres in length.
