Thank you Hooknose and Libtard for derailing the thread.

Fact is you are all wrong IMO, we need both.

This 🞵🞵🞵 for tat approach for infrastructure is why both or roads and rail are not given the attention they both need.

The Broadway Line is among the most needed mass transit expansions in the entire country. It needs to begin ASAP.

That said, the GMT also needs to be replaced (if not now, within a decade or so) and the 99 also needs to be majorly upgraded to a modern standard. Throw in a decent rapid bus system into the mix and no matter what way you cut it the project will be in the multi-billions. Anything less will be bandaid solution akin to throwing money away.

Both are needed.

this. Totally this.

Broadway is the busiest corridor in North America and rapid transit will help alleviate overcrowding on 99. It's highly ignorant to even suggest otherwise. GMT, along with the interchanges along 99 is in dire need of an upgrade as it is a major bottleneck that does not meet the demand of growing commercial traffic. Trucks don't use public transit.

Right on, as is Metro.
Just tell that to the government at all levels, and see what sort of response you get

Busiest in NA? Hardly.. you need to get out more. Maybe the busiest without rapid transit. I don't call buses rapid transit. Rapid transit only stops at stations.

Broadway is actually the busiest bus corridor in North America, not overall.

I think that is what he meant, it is the busiest corridor currently being serviced only by buses.

Upper North America - some of Mexico's routes are even busier.

Mexico is Latin America.

How come Translink didn't put the cut n cover option on the table? What would the cost savings be? How much sooner would the project be done?

That would not happen, political suicide after the Canada Line (which actually wasn't out of the ordinary in any way).

Cut n' cover along Broadway would make the Cambie dig look like a minor inconvenience.

Cut n' cover along 10th would be great - reduced costs AND minimal traffic impact... unfortunately, they will most likely not in order to keep the bike lane open.

You need to study your geography.

well this thread went downhill fast. sigh.

Mexico is a 3rd world country and cant be compared to the USA and Canada. sure it might be geographically part of North America, but in what matters, its not. can't even drink water down there.

Parts of Mexico sure. It is a very unequal country and there are very wealthy individuals who hold power and push everyone else down to maintain it./

However places like Guadalajara, Mexico city, etc. are modern wonderful cities that frankly have better infrastructure then Vancouver and if your educated and can earn some money are as good places to live as here, if not better. You see the world has changed so much in the past 20 years and Canada has not kept pace with many of these paces.

Most people are familiar with the tourist destinations with 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 no skill tourism jobs and slums on the outside. Yeah that's Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and all these places. There are no good jobs there. No universities. No advanced industry. No financial sector. Mexico city obviously has over 20 million people but it has pretty good infrastructure and is a good place to live, ignoring the smog and the fact it is overpopulated and too dense. Not many middle class people leave Mexico City today. Heck many go back.

Anyways back on topic Broadway is busy, no doubt it needs rapid transit up to Arbutus and preferably road capacity upgrades for the roads. The place is impossible to get around in the ever increasing rush hour.

Until all the funding is in place, this major project is going nowhere. Nothing we discuss here will change that fact.

All of the drilling and planning and consultation they're doing kind of pokes a hole in your "this project is going nowhere" theory.

Dear Metro-One

No intention to derail the discussion. Except .. politics are the key ingredient here. We have two headstrong groups butting their heads.

Politics is the real issue. Respectfully submitted.

Well, they can poke and prod all they want but there is no money in the bank yet. The GMB has supposedly started but the NDP/Greens have promised that they will cancel the project once they take power. I always say... show me the money first!!!

Ugh look at all the work done on GMT and Highway 99 and that project might get cancelled.

You mean all that work that they sat on for a few years and started on just to coincide with when the election was scheduled for? Don't you notice when they've timed these kinds of projects to start and finish? The prep work for that project is nothing more than a dog whistle in order to win votes. It's miniscule potatoes compared to the cost of the project as a whole.
