I want this line to be completed as much as anyone but..

A project can have a tonne of planning done but without a committed funding source it is going absolutely nowhere.

Talk is cheap.

Ah, but the Feds won't give that committed funding source unless Vancouver has a proper plan.

I think you mean Translink. And the Feds have already committed money to this project, so has the province. It's Translink's portion that is not committed (regardless if you think what they are being asked to come up with is fair).

TransLink, yes. My point is that while the funding's guaranteed, we don't actually receive that funding until we're shovel-ready... which we are not.

Lots of if's in there. Will be interesting to see how the Feds react to the new government in BC. A promise of funding is not a firm commitment.
Jesus Christ 2019? This should've been finished at least 5 years ago. Watching major projects get off the ground in BC is like watching paint dry.

Watch the paint dry... then watch it age and peel... then watch it get painted again...

It's more like 3 people want to paint a mural but no one wants to buy paint because at least 1 person says "I have no money so let's wait until the paint goes on sale". By the time all 3 of them chips in enough money, the price of paint has gone up.

Filled out the survey.

Commented that there needs to be a direct underground connection between the Canada Line and this extension that remains within the fare paid zone.

Also asked for the stations to have multiple access points.

The 2019 start and 2025 opening still seems excessively slow Imo for his project.

Again, only 6 KM long.

Agreed, the UBC line should have been built already and all the way to UBC.

It is insane that BC has 4 billion for a bridge that no one needs and nothing for a subway line that everyone needs.

Everyone from the mayors to the premier played politics with this and the only losers are the long suffering people.

That would be far too expensive given there is no real need for fast tracking the project. Regardless most of the line is tunnelled so unless you want to dig out half a block of Broadway for two years there is not much that can be done to shorten the construction time.

The province needs a new Massey bridge. Self entitled students need the Broadway skytrain line

Wrong. I'd tell you why but you're just trolling and would ignore facts and reason anyhow.

Dear Libtard:

Sorry to disagree. Vancouver does not need ten billion more cars on its streets but it needs a RR system from one end to another.

Quality of life for everyone goes up as car use is brought down.

And yes, after the UBC line is fully built I can see a line from "across the Deas Island" to the north shore, with huge parking and a huge bus terminal on the south side.

Not just for entitled students (they are human beings too) but also for the entitled car drivers who want their lives back (by not sitting in a 2 hour traffic jam each day).

You already have the 99 Bline that has incredibly fast frequencies (a lot of times it's 1 bus pulling up right behind the other). I'd like a skytrain line from my front door to my work but that's not feasible. Can't you be happy with a very frequent bus?

The central Broadway corridor between Main and Burrard is BC's second-largest area of employment. That alone should have put it to the forefront of any SkyTrain expansions long ago.

It's blatantly obvious that you have no idea how overcapacity the 99 is, especially during rush hour.

They fill up at commercial and by the time they get to Fraser you have 5 or 6 in a row only dropping off people and not allowing people in the front door, only if you can sneak in the back door before they close.

Not to mention all the new condos going in along the Broadway corridor.

Get your entitled — out of your car for once.

Also why do you have 'tard' in your username??

It's offensive to anyone who may be mentally challenged as they would have to sink to your level.

The fast frequencies are of little solace when bus after bus passes you by because they're full. And little can be done about it because they're at the maximum practicable frequencies already. That's exactly why the buses bunch up, and why you can't reasonably add any more.

Translink has opened and beefed up numerous other cross-town relief routes for UBC-bound passengers such as #25, #33, #43, and #84, but Broadway is still jam-packed, because it serves not only UBC but also the hospital district, the second largest employment center in Greater Vancouver.

Broadway is in desperate need of a rapid transit line and has been for several years. Unfortunately the Liberal government has been stonewalling Translink on funding options that whole time, while throwing money at bridge and highway projects one after another. Christy's seemingly sudden recognition of this problem is no more than an utterly insincere deathbed conversion IMHO.
