You have to fight for your right to sunlight.

True but that is where the rest of perhaps 99.7% of the city comes in plus all the surrounding land near the city so no major concern.

It would become the densest part of Winnipeg... think about it... if TNS and the St. Mary's developments get built out, that stretch of Carlton and Hargrave from Portage to York would have something like 14 10-storey plus towers on either side.

It would be awesome. Get the wastelands of Donald Ave populated with buildings and boy that' be something.

Anybody here anything recently on the MPI lots of Donald? They were on hold last I heard. Originally they were released for RFP at same time as TNS.

Well that settles my question. I knew the church was looking into building a mega project downtown, but I didn't realize that the lot in mind to build on was that exact very site!

Assuming St. Mary's happens, then I stand my ground that the RWB residence should be a vegetated green space serving the square. I just can't really think of anything more interesting that you could do with the property. What exactly could you do with it otherwise? Build a slightly bigger podium for Sutton? I guess that could add an extra space for more retail, but by the time RWB finally considers getting rid of it the Sutton place will likely already have been built.

This whole idea is much more plausible as a long term wish. I would love to see the ballet build a new residence on top of their parkade, but this can happen at anytime, so no rush.

You'd think someone would notice by now that the camera is not working if they didn't move it.

That St. Mary's Cathedral and Centre expansion looks very ambitious. Not that it's a bad thing. I just feel that it's a bit drastic.

Don't get me wrong! I'm all for this expansion. As someone mentioned before, this will be the most dense part of downtown Winnipeg. I just feel that the Cathedral would be dwarfed by these potential midrises/highrises. Then again, some cathedrals in New York City have been dwarfed by it's skycraper neighbours.

Update for those suffering camera withdrawl.

Office tower now up to forming of 7th floor slab. Elevator core is working on the 7th floor walls. The roof of the podium is being formed at the west end of the site. Can't see the residential tower from here, so no updates. I would think they're up to the 3rd floor by now.

Thanks for the update.

Although your words are no substitute for those beautiful construction images that we all are missing right now.

^ Nice pics!

If that St. Mary's Cathedral project ever gets built, it sure will ruin the view to the south for the occupants of the office tower (at least the ones on the lower floors). But then, it'll probably save the landlord a ton on A/C-related energy costs by eliminating the south exposure for several floors, so I guess the tenants can use that to haggle a deal
