Umm the same way every other city that doesn't have dumpsters

Wasn't the removal of dumpsters thwarted a few years ago by the SJW set?

I'm not joking.

Isn't that alley just a big urinal for Granville patrons?

Maybe that's why they are trying to fix it up?

Yeah, no matter how pretty they make it look, there's no way I will hang out in an alley that smells like urine.

they should add some of those urinals you see in europe to that alley and some other alleys downtown, maybe even some pop up ones.

connect2edmonton

or these would work well in an alley setting

Note that the heights on the diagrams below are geodetic (from sea level, not from grade).

As a side note, the west side of Granville seems like it'll be severely height limited by that view cone.

401 West Georgia Model

I had to double check this was for 401 West Georgia, as I find the model very underwhelming when compared to the renderings.

Um... twins? One went into the condo biz and one went to office. Uncanny...

You're just supposed to stand back and aim for the hole? Or are you supposed to hang your shit in the hole and urinate? Like some sort of weird public yellow colored alley glory hole?

I feel like maybe I'm missing something here?

They seem to be pretty common in Amsterdam, just urinals without any doors

Civilization at its best lol. Next, an alley pop up toilet on the pavement?

Btw, where does the pee drain to once the tube is full? Don't tell me it's out onto the alley again? Also, this thing will be pretty disgusting with layers of dried urine on it. No maintenance crew will like getting close to it .

The pedestrian walkways in front of London Drugs and many parts of Granville always reek with urine stench. I think some people don't even use alleys anymore: they just spray it out in front of businesses.

I'm looking forward to planters downtown that you can just take a dump in and have it instantly turned into compost. I sure Gregor's on it.

In London and New York people leave their garbage bags piled up in front of their buildings though. Some alleys in Vancouver don't have dumpsters, but only achievable with the newer buildings that come with built-in dumpster storage or compactors.

401 west georgia looks great. Too bad it couldn't be as high as the existing tower. I guess some on here would say it's economics that doesn't make that feasible. but I think it's because the city won't allow any more density on that block, which is unfortunate if that's the case

150 Robson St. Open House - Model photos and links to info boards

Landscape and Site Plan:
http://rezoning.vancouver.ca/application...ments/150RobsonSt-ApplicantOHBoards1.pdf

Floor Plans and Renderings:
http://rezoning.vancouver.ca/application...ments/150RobsonSt-ApplicantOHBoards2.pdf

So, given that City staff have already posted the boards from today's open house (Assumedly they must have consumed copious amounts of energy drinks to manage that) I won't bother posting what seem to be updated renderings.
That said, I like that version 3 seems to have gone for a lighter colour tone in respect the heritage facade. Also nice is the offset stacked floors of the hotel.
One aspect I did find a little disappointing was the treatment of the Beatty St face of the hotel, which seems to lack any life when compared to the stadium across the street. Hopefully a light feature or some sort of activation can be implemented to respond better. One other slight critique is the huge amount of parking being provided for the residential portion of the building. Overall, I'm happy with the design, and think it'll be a nice project.

Thanks! What I see there is that it might be a challenge to get some good pics of the excavation while they preserve three sides of the old building facades. Maybe I'll be able to get some shots from the Beatty Street side.

Agreed that the hotel cube could be more interesting / animated.
I think it begs for another offset at the top storey, or even more height (it's well below the view cone).

A rooftop bar would be cool above the hotel. Right next to BC Place and on Robson would be a great spot
