I thought AEG had threw their hat back in the game a few pages back ? maybe late last year somebody posted a link saying that AEG wanted to take over the convention center redo so they can control the hotel operations as well? I only remember because I said they just threw one of the biggest corporate tantrums of our lifetimes.

This version of the convention center is dead. The city doesn't have the money to pay for it. AS for what version might be built, that is up in the air.

It's too bad, I really liked that design.

Here's an update on the convention center project from Nov. Don't know if there has been any more news recently.

Hello!

I took this photo (link below) off this forum a year or two ago. I possibly want to use it for my business website. Just wondering if this person is still on here to get permission or if any of you remember who took it. I believe it was someone who is active in this forum.

Thanks for your help and all the info/discussions you provide.

Lake Perris (rowing and canoe)

In any case, any discussion of air quality in the Inland Empire is unrelated to Downtown LA and should be discussed in the LA Metro thread.

Well Chelsea what I am saying is that it would be a very unpleasant site (if not impossible) for any Olympic event. That area of the Los Angeles basin has the worst air quality during the July with probably the highest ozone levels (you know that stuff in the air that can really harm you physically--especially if you overexert yourself) in the nation. It also has some of the highest sulfur dioxide and particulate levels (especially from diesel fumes). Also, during that month chances are good that during the two week event there may be at least ten 100 degree plus days, could even be some up to 110 degrees for a few days. As the others might say if the athletes can handle the same 🞵🞵🞵🞵 in Beijing or Rio then so be it, but if you should go to spectate, Chelsea have a lovely time.

Olympics are almost always in August. Not that that makes a huge difference in pollution levels, but important to note nevertheless.

Thank you for the acknowledgement of my post. I initially made it because I have lived in the IE for over 40 years (I currently live in the foothills just beneath Mt. Anderson) Since I live just above 2700 ft above sea level the nooks and crannies of the hills and valleys help play little tricks on the local weather, micro climate, and air quality level. For example, during August at my house the air quality can be astoundingly good with clear blues skies yet at about 2:00 to 3:00 pm when the summertime marine layer finally penetrates this far east, one can actually smell and see the foul air. In fact driving down the pass into the San Berardino Valley you can see a "wall" of grey to brown air during the summertime months. In Moreno Valley's case the air just tends to back up against a pass of hills they call "the Badlands." The air quality there during the month of August is usually very bad starting early in the day into the evening. And to make matters worse because there is no free flowing of marine air and because of the lower elevation the area gets really hot during the summer. That is why I was so surprised to see that sight chosen especially since I don't remember it ever being considered during the 1984 Olympics. So much for the geography lesson on this part of the IE

Same issue will arise in the sports being played in The Valley sports park then, July temps top 100F frequently and air isn't that great either. Anyways I don't see this as a problem. Worse for the spectators than the athletes imo. They should be well trained for Los Angeles heat knowing it can get very hot in order to win some medals.

^ Think on the bright side, they have 11 years to come up with a solution!

I lived in Moreno Valley and spent many days at Lake Perris. It does indeed get very hot. Such as a lot of places in the summer. Which is to be expected in a lake not too terribly far from a desert. However, Lake Perris does have the benefit of being warm in the summer (around 70 degrees) so I wouldn't worry too much at all about the heat. People suffered through worse heat in Atlanta and Athens and worse air quality in Beijing. Plus it's 11 years away. It's not tomorrow. Lots of things can happen in that time.

This is the most exciting development I have seen in LA ever! Even if some of this goes through it will be a massive game changer, especially the stuff by One Santa Fe!

Level is really 25 ft. taller. It's just cause Atlier is closer to the camera.

Zooming in on the Metropolis web cam, it appears that we may be seeing the first piece of cladding installed on the tallest tower of Oceanwide Plaza, on the northwest corner of the tower, on the first setback above the podium level. It's hard to tell, and could be white sheeting, but this looks different than what I have seen before, and I've been checking daily. #constructionstalker

King, I am so embarrassed I should have realized the obvious--but then again that is the "mystery" of an optical illusion, isn't it?

Another lighting scheme on the Wilshire Grand. They really have gone all out on the lighting for this project. Its a showstopper.

It seems the lighting is internal as well as in the LED strips weve seen so far.

Wow!! Just WOW!! Their lighting is amazing. I really wish OUE would step their game up on the lighting of the USBank tower. I really thought that when they purchased this building they would go all out. They went weak. Oh well, maybe Wilshire Grand will inspire them

By the way, the facade is up to the 2nd floor on AECOM's 37 story. As I went to view it from across the street I was struck by the beauty in the foreground. I was super impressed and spent a lot of time with the admiring the details in the sidewalk landscaping and canopy growth of trees along EVO. It truly feels like a nice park along the street. THE SOUTH GROUP put into their developments so much care and detail rather than many of the brand new developments. I wish the recession hadn't knocked them out of our market; they were a true asset visionary in the livability of downtown
