Until we have a comprehensive transit system that covers all the suburbs with some type of rail, we will need to make Midtown more efficient for road transportation. I'm sure Midtown plans on making this 2 block road a complete street as well as creating implements for a future 15th street bridge over the highway. Would be nice if they could eventually cap the connector in this area.
I was talking about the eastbound lanes. Or it might technically be one 20' wide lane--pavement markings in this town are pretty sketchy. Either way it's a lot of wasted asphalt that can literally never have two lanes of traffic feeding into it, either before or after this project.

There are plenty of other unnecessarily huge streets and non-functional lanes throughout Midtown. They do nothing to enhance traffic flow.

Or we could do both by creating complete streets that reduce block size adjacent to a Marta station. This ain't the street to make pedestrian, with large parking garages and blank walls. Most lively streets allow both cars and pedestrians.

Reducing block sizes in general will be of huge benefit to Midtown, as well as throughout Atlanta. Walking around Atlanta is often a pain, as clusters of storefronts are often few and far between.

Agreed about that lane- it will be interesting to see what changes are made to that area once the hotel is built. Perhaps that will become a valet/taxi zone.

BCG to lease 2 floors at Equitable Building?

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/...quitable-building-could-land-boston.html

Sounds like speculation is BCG will lease 2 floors of Equitable building.

Quote:
Boston Consulting Group(BCG) could put its new Atlanta hub in downtown’s iconic "Equitable" building, Atlanta Business Chronicle has learned.

On Monday, the global management consulting firm said it would create more than 200 jobs and invest $9.2 million in a new regional support center in Atlanta. The BCG office will, over time, grow to 500 employees.

Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported BCG’s expansion plans in April.

BCG, on Wednesday, declined to comment on whether the Equitable building would be the site of its new office. The 33-story building, 100 Peachtree, has been a downtown landmark for more than four decades.

BCG, a "Big Three" consulting firm said it will lease 40,000-square-feet — or two floors — in an undisclosed downtown Atlanta building. Construction is expected to begin in June 2017 and to be completed in June 2018.

BCG will maintain its other Atlanta office. This is in addition to their current presence in the city... 200 new jobs.

I got the same note. Does the addition on more balconies mean a slight design change? When I first visited the sales staff, the amount of units with balconies was very very slim due to the design.

The only change I see is the addition of more and balconies. Mind understanding was always that Opus would always had units "starting in the $700s".

Planning permit filed for a 256 unit residential development at 2108 Bolton Rd. I believe this would be part of "the quarter upper westside."

Permit filed for rezoning for a $300 million mixed use development at 535 Mitchell Street, Southwest of Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Planning permit filed to consolidate lots at 539 Decatur St for commercial development. I assume this is for the O4D distillery.

Permit filed to replat 4 lots at 225 Crumley St in Mechanicsville for residential development.

With regards to Opus Place....

According to Accela their permit is all but approved for land disturbance. It is just awaiting the Sanitation approval.

Invest Atlanta OK's funding for new apartment tower on top of downtown parking deck

Quote:
Atlanta's economic development agency Thursday approved using up to $9 million in tax dollars to help finance construction of a $90.5 million residential tower downtown. The 14-story, 302-unit apartment building will be located above an existing parking garage at 161 Peachtree Center Ave., adjacent to Peachtree Center and close to the Peachtree Center MARTA station.

The parking deck in question is behind 191 Peachtree:

That's a really nice looking apartment building! There's so much space in downtown for development. It really has the structure to be Atlanta's most recognizable and vibrant community one day. Transit expansion should certainly help with that. The one point I'd note is it'd be nice to create more linear parks between Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.

It's unfortunate that with so much happening that buildings still are being subsidized.

It's not ideal, but spending a little money to give neighborhoods that need it a shot in the arm isn't necessarily a bad thing.
