^ Seemed to me that they put in the EB to NB flyover just because it was already "there" in a way and it wouldn't cost all that much just to rebuild it vs. a completely new ramp.

But they're rebuilding the entire thing anyways. Earthen ramps up to bridge, new bridges. Everything is on a slightly different alignment. The new flyover of 59n is slightly south of the old one.

But might have been more financially responsible to change the ramp to the NB to WB direction.
I do live out there, but would rather see the ramp go from NB 59 to WB 101.

The 101/59 ramp configure could be in part due to commercial truck traffic. It seems the bulk of the NB to WB traffic is passenger vehicles at that point. Long term the plan seems to be for all commercial truck traffic in NE Winnipeg to be using CPT over the Perimeter.

Thanks for the comments about my video.

ahh okay, I was under the impression that it was going to be just like the I-29/I-94 Interchange. But now that I look at the diagrams I see how it's a bit different.

On the flyover, it only flies over PTH-59 (as it did before on the old flyover), but then flies-under the Perimeter at ground level under a new bridge with the Perimeter staying above on the 2nd level. It's functionally similar just instead of going over the last time it goes under and because there was enough land there, they could make the flyover go out wide enough to not need to stack it on a 3rd level but still have full grade-separation. That's what's important in my books. Grade Separation :-D (Winnipeg's new term that I hope we see more and more now). I'm hoping Winnipeg is bold enough to go with the Diverging Diamond interchange design for McPhillips.

With all the deaths at Pipeline & The Perimeter they just HAVE to build a diamond for that one, I don't care what they claim the traffic count is.. it's for safety!

I was wondering if anyone here, that may be "in the know", has any information regarding what the city plans to do with Jefferson Ave west of King Edward now that the CPT alignment has moved north to Mollard Rd. Originally it was to be closed at King Edward as part of early designs. Current documents in the latest design don't show it on their maps. As it stands now, it is in pretty deplorable shape and the city is doing some work on it.

All of that is found in this thread here, even though the latest talk of CPT should have been in this thread, in which you revived from the dead.

And holy boats, have you been lurking for this long? This is your first post, and yet, I see you've been here since 2014.

Either way, welcome aboard!

Deaths? What deaths? I've never seen or heard of any accidents at Pipeline nor any deaths. At least nothing recent and certainly not a regular occurrence.

Ummmm. Have you been hiding under a rock. Pipeline won last year for the most deaths of any crossing. Remember when the gravel truck ran the read light and pretty much took out an entire family .....

I might as well post this in this thread too:

I attended the session for the Chief Peguis Trail extension too. Here's my video report, fresh off the Final Cut Pro X cutting floor:

I'm fairly surprised. I was sure the city would cheap out with a "made in Winnipeg" design and give us just two interchanges forever.

Even though it should be a full interchange over a diamond at Brookside, I would gladly take a diamond over a set of lights in a heartbeat. Building a diamond interchange here in WPG/MB is like building the Taj Mahal.

Diamonds are a Winnipegers best friend.

No not 1 accident. A few weeks later there was another major accident with 9 people injured and a little girl in critical condition.

All locations are important. How much is one's life worth? If it was your family member who was injured or killed, the tone would change.

Basically every intersection on the Perimeter, especially the lighted ones, are big issues. We've gone in circles many times about this. Which one goes first? Everybody would have a different list.

I don't want to sound like an insensitive bastard (preclude for bastardization), but...

Do people not know how to navigate an intersection? I drive past there a billion times and had no idea it was "dangerous"...

However, it is moronic that it doesn't have those "it's going to turn red soon" warning lights. It's a large and wide highway, don't just change the limit, let people know it's turning red. 80 is a high enough speed for that.

K, there's the solution: "warning lights". done.

^ Or they can borrow from COW's playbook and install electronic signs stating "frequent collision intersection" like was done at McGillvary/Kenastop and Bishop/St. Mary's. Do that for every lighted intersection and accidents will be eliminated and no interchanges will ever be required. Lol

It does have warning lights.
I'd rather see the intersection closed to cross traffic. Merge in west bound from the North, merge in east bound from the South. Emergency only crossing. Those lights, despite not a lot of north-south traffic disrupt the flow. I think that's why it's dangerous, you don't expect there to be a need to stop there and you shouldn't have to.

Everyone's list would be different sure, but if I had the option - Close Pipeline in the way that I said, and give the exchange to the busier (yet safer) Highway 6 lights.

I agree to cut Pipeline access to 101 but if the lights must stay, at least adjust the timing to leave 101 green for 1.5 to 2 minutes. The timing now which stops dozens of high speed cars and semi trucks to let 3 vehicles through on Pipeline is ridiculous and obviously unsafe.
