^ I also remember Mr. "Insider" Darren Dreger and his condescending remarks on TSN 1290 just days before announcement of the sale of the Thrashers (which was 6 years ago today, BTW...time flies). A lot of supposed "insiders" were proven wrong that day

Fair enough, although at looking into Fortress I don't see much 'negative' feedback if anything it's the contrary (beside SkyCity)-- Fortress's presence in Ontario seems to be big and well respected. What am I missing? I just want to be informed and it seems like everyone on this forum has done over the top research which is always great to read! Need to be informed before making purchases downtown

If you are interested I would suggest reading up on other projects Fortress is involved with beyond Winnipeg.

Fortress has had some struggles elsewhere, and it's documented.

In our case, we've done so much research on this because there only are 3 major downtown projects going on right now. True North Square, 300 Main, and SkyCity. So we dive in deep on these!

Maybe Fortress is better than some of us think, but they're being compared to the former 2 developers, who are very, very squeaky clean.

Capital Pointe less sales office stated to me many times that financing was in place and the crane was coming in may , as per a CBC story there is no financing in place Fortress confirmed there is not yet secured construction financing for Capital Pointe in Regina.

Fortress confirmed there is not yet secured construction financing for Capital Pointe in Regina.

"The developer is currently reviewing multiple offers and plans to choose the financing package for Capital Pointe," said Jenni Byrne, spokesperson for Fortress.

Sales people lying to get a sale is certainly not unique to capital pointe or fortress projects. I have old emails from various pre-construction sales people for projects around Winnipeg. They're all full of it.

A Google search of Fortress would quickly dispel that notion. There are literally dozens of articles about these guys and their shady and illegal tactics, stretching back years.

National publications like Macleans and CBC have run pieces on these guys. They're in tons of local papers. There are multiple lawsuits. Regulators have banned and fined them. I have no idea how you could come to your conclusion that they are "well respected". By who?

For sure by now we must be excavating this wonderful building. Must be at least a few floors down. By fall we should be above grade. Amazing isn't it.

Sorry was having a dream and I guess I wanted to share it.

They should at the very least fix the parking lot

But before that....winterization first...then 'unforeseen circumstances'....then a puff piece by the PR folks.

I remember that. It was a military themed night in 2007. A poster by the name of "Blackthorne" accused the Manitoba Moose of exploiting the military in order to sell tickets, or something to that extent. He actually signed off on the email as a long time member of Jetsowner.Com. He was banned from the site shortly after, once complaints were received. He also said some derogatory comments about the only female Jetsowner member, who he was trying to court, after learning that she recently became engaged. Incidentally, BT still posted about the Jets on the WFP as "Commander1" and did make an appearance on the Jets Hockey Forum as "slippy" in 2012, until he was outed by members who recognized his distinct writing style.

But yes, they did get a little full of themselves. The Polar Bears thing was funny because Darren released that info right before he was going to some event and couldnt delete it for awhile. The loyalists spun it as Darren joking and he let that stand when he was simply mistaken.
lol...yeah I never understood why he could not admit to being wrong.

Jetsowner was cool in that it was nice to go somewhere where so many people shared the same positive outlook for Winnipeg and the return of the NHL. And there were some very smart people there that could produce facts and numbers to support the idea (and refute the naysayers). But realistically it had nothing to do with the NHL returning. But it likely helped spread a more positive outlook on why it was possible.
Absolutely. I first found out about the site in 2004, and the forum in 2005. It was great to share idea with the other "dreamers" since at work or with friends, I was considered nuts for even suggesting the jets would one day return.

Quote:
It got weird though where they began censoring posts. For example, some people guessed David Thomson was involved due to his stake in the Eaton's land/MTSC but for ages, anyone suggesting it was censored because Darren thought mentioning David's name would cause the deal to fall apart....ummm yeah.
That happened I beleive in late 2007, IIRC. Appearantly, Mr.Ford claimed that he had dinner one night with Chipman, and he was given some semi-confidental information about a plan to bring back a team to Winnipeg, or so he claims. Unsure if it can be verified, but Ford did receive a "Jetsowner" plaque from True North after the team was purchased, so who knows?

Quote:
The biggest boner was, of course, selling out to the Free Press at the end and killing the website. I was very active there until the end. And happily recruited to several "new" Jets forums when everyone realized Darren sold out and the Freep site sucked. I now discuss the NHL at a "Bombers" forum that has a Jets subsite. Great site.
The move to close the site, and try and force people to move to register for the Free Press site was against everything Ford had said since 2005. He would often post blogs about how not to trust or listen to the MSM, yet at first offer, he accepts the WFP deal, and kills off Jetsowner, in spite of some long time members pleading with him to leave it open, and even offers to purchase the site off him.

Most members eventually migrated to the Jets Hockey Forum, and the rest is history. Although Ford even spammed the site, directing old members of his forum to the WFP site, and picking fights with detractors. It was a gong show. It was obvious that the WFP and Ford had been incorrect in their assumption that all posters would follow him to the WFP site, and it never gained much popularity.

It's kind of sad, really since Ford would and still is, welcome to join and post, and it would be great to see him post on the JHF. It is what it is, I guess. Anyway, JHF is still alive and well after nearly six years. It's much like the Jetsowner Forum.

i was one of the biggest boosters and supporters for this project when it was first announced but lately ive become just as pessimistic as everyone else about this project..

i guess my expectations have lowered a bit so i wouldnt be shocked either way i hope it succeeds but who knows im tired of the constant delays and excuses related to this project..

either shit or get off the toiler.. if by the end of July they dont make any major anouncements or the st regis is till standing... i will completely give up on this project
