Looks to me the "future development" is the Monark prep site, the diagram is not to correct proportion.
The Observatory is actually still a little north of Monark site

I was assuming the future development is Milano.

Perhaps Monark sold the site to THIND, thus incorporating it into the Lumina project?

Edit: Looks like the Monark Group is involved with the Lumina Brentwood development: https://www.monark.com/real-estate/

Thanks for the info - I guess that's why that parcel is somewhat disconnected from the rest of the Lumina site.

For Sale 6800 Lougheed Highway (Dairyland Saputo)

Quote:
I wonder where burnaby saw the listing for 6800 Lougheed Hwy? I can't find it anywhere. I would also assume that Saputo would need to construct a new dairy plant somewhere in the Lower Mainland before they can even think of moving

So that whole block between Winston and Bainbridge is for sale now, huh.. 7000 Lougheed (former Telus site) still seems to be listed with Colliers.

Thanks for the link! I was not able to find it myself no matter how hard I tried.

Burnaby produced a video about the Willingdon Linear Park. It does not seem to have had much promotion. It has had fewer than 400 views since February. If it was posted here (or anywhere), I missed it. It has some new information which I have not seen in news articles or in last year's public consultation.

A big win for Burnaby and the Brentwood neighbourhood to have the park built. By going high density, Burnaby is able not just to preserve, but also create more green space for the residents. In the meantime, Vancouver's arbutus corridor is still stuck in limbo.

Burnaby likes adding to its park space. I'm not sure for how long, but I remember there being votes for 'do we want this park' on the ballot for city elections (and they get very high yes votes). It helps that the city has been buying up the Willingdon property for a long time vs CoV just recently buying up the Arbutus property to 'save' residents from train traffic.

It would be a shame to let the density potential adjacent to the Sperling Skytrain station go to waste with sparsely scattered townhomes or low rises. I'd also imagine that the developers that purchase these large swaths of land would want to get their money's worth, a few low rises won't cut it.
I know you really want there to be high rises at that location (you talked about it a few months ago) but as was pointed out then, it is not part of one of Burnaby's town centres - and they're going to change it just to make you happy.

That's great, it'll definitely make that area livelier. If only they could do something similar to the stretch between Metrotown and Deer Lake Parkway, I walk down that way pretty often and it could really use a nicer path than the narrow sidewalk sandwiched between the busy road and properties. Alas I don't see that being a possibility because of all the houses being right up against the sidewalk.

On a side note, why is she pronouncing it "Willington?" Have I been saying it wrong all these years?

It gives a better sense of the future vision and density of the Brentwood area. Wow.

I have taken recreational walks to Metrotown from Brentwood several times. Willingdon is miserable, so I went along Gilmore and up through the neighbourhood around Gilpin. Most of that route is fairly pleasant (except Gilmore between Lougheed and Canada Way), but it's roundabout.

We really need more pleasant pedestrian/bike routes connecting the city. In most places I have lived (e.g. Toronto), I could just strike out in any direction for an interesting walk that went somewhere. If I want to take a walk here, I feel as though I need to drive to a place to take a walk, which defeats the purpose.

I've never heard anyone else say it that way.

I think this is a great idea however, calling it a park is a bit of a stretch. A cool walkway maybe
