Just what the City says they wont allow. Hopefully they stick to their guns on this one. Even though the St Regis is not overly beautiful, the original part is over 100 years old.

I agree. I'd be pretty surprised if a decade from now, there was anything other than an impark meter and a bunch of parking stalls on that parcel.

Interesting that the original plan for the parkade there had a national tenant that was fought over. To me, that seems like that's probably where the grocer they were talking to was going to go (so there was easy parking close by), but it is now going at 300 Main. If this project goes ahead with the podium stretching all the way to the Portage lane, I'd be happy with that!

Otherwise, wouldn't mind seeing the hotel redeveloped as is.

I would love for there to be a strip of street level retail/commercial/whatever along Smith. Just not a damn surface lot. If you must have surface parking, put it on the back lane side.. Although I'm sure that's not permitted.

You neeedddddddd toooo chilllllllllll. It says right in the article at grade retail and commercial parking. They want to combine it with SkyCity. That was not the original plan. Like I said above, hopefully the City stands firm in not allowing that sort of thing to happen. Many times we've been offered the world. Only to end up with vacant lots where beautiful old buildings once stood. Again, to clarify, I did not say the St r=Regis is beautiful, just old.

No need to resort to name calling. I want to see this thing built just as much as you do. A news article was written with some information we've not previously heard. So, what, should I cover it up like Watergate? I don't get what your deal is.

Here is the piece I was referring to.

"When it recently became known that our site would not be selected, and our co-developer Edenshaw was confirmed, we jointly agreed to revise our development plan to include at grade retail and commercial parking, incorporating it into our SkyCity project."
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/stregis-hotel-demolition-1.4114742

So that's their plan. The City needs to reject it, otherwise that's what they're doing. That's how developers work. You keep doing what you want until someone says no.

....ohhh man, that was super funny. He called you a "bafoon". I can't stop laughing. It makes it even more funny that he called you a "bafoon" and not a "buffoon".

Oh shit, that is funny. People are looking at me....

I can't help but laugh that a certain poster here seems to think demolishing the St. Regis means anything. First of all, let's wait until they actually knock it down since Fortress is all about talk and not about action.

Second, take a look at the Port Place now Union Waterfront project in Port Dalhousie for a comparable.

The bars and businesses were knocked down in 2012 to make room for this development that commenced sometime around 2009. It's 2017 and they are back to ground zero with no permit, no sales, no plan, no nothing...let alone the condo they've been promising for years.

Fortress has plenty of history. They haven't built a single building, ever. Those are the facts.

^ Further to that, the Plains Hotel in Regina was demolished in 2011... all there is on the site is a recently excavated pit.

I would argue it really would not make much of a difference knocking it down at any point given the size of the adjacent surface lot. Really no big deal.

Oh the irony in such statements...

lilwayne, you need to calm down before every post you make...the way you speak to other forum members is just dismal. It's been like this since day one...5 years later and you still post immature, verbal garbage like that...Again, to a respectable forum member and poster like bomberjet?

Sure sometimes the posts have marginal entertainment value, but most of the time you're delving into your massive word drawer of the same 3 or 4 names you call people...you might instead be better off writing in your own diary and cooling down first rather than coming here with knee jerk reactions and needlessly calling out, needlessly putting down others...especially if "bafoon" is the apex of your contributions

Agreed!

Sometimes I wonder if lilwayne is really just assuming a persona to maintain anonymity... it would not shock me if he actually looked like one of these people in real life

Always a 1st time , eh? Let's keep it to this project, K? Don't give a shit whats happening elsewhere. I only bring it to your attention because you only post on matters relating to Fortress.

You don't think a company's history is relevant to any given project they are working on? You may not care, but clearly others here do (see esquire's post).

If this was Trideal/Great Gulf/reputable developer, there would nowhere near the well-deserved scrutiny.

All aspects of any project are open to discussion. It's your fixation on posting the same material, give or take a different link, in a repetitive trolling like fashion. If you were an active poster in any other thread as well, I probably wouldn't think much about it. I'm not worried about what esquire posts, poor example. He's an active poster in all discussions.
