A bit of full disclosure here.

I am now a member of the Design Review Committee and one of my main goals as a member will be to demand assurance of higher quality materials on new developments that come before the committee for approval.

Congrats!

I think if the focus shifted to the holistic design instead of height, we'd get better buildings.

What colour is the stone?

Its a grey/light blue natural looking quarry stone. It looked to be random in shape, so looks real, not artificial.

Both pieces of news are great!

Congrats Jonovision, I am glad that somebody will be looking out for the quality of new builds in the city. Your services are certainly needed.

On the stone, it sounds very encouraging. Being butted up to Keith's, natural stone seems like the best fit to blend well with the heritage property yet still be modern. I'm very happy to hear this.

Anyone have a picture of the new stone going in on the base? Can't make it down to see, but sounds great!

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited to be on the committee and hope to make a positive contribution to the built form in Halifax.

Took some wet foggy pics today. Looks good!

No, they're just starting to step the floors inward, so they still have a few more to go. I'm really interested to see what the "cap" on the building ends up looking like. The renderings really don't give any clue to what materials it will be made of or how it'll be constructed.

Thanks for the description and now I can see from Jono's pics.

WE HAVE REAL STONE PEOPLE!

Honestly, I'm happy this isn't a fake art deco tower now... it is looking great.

Ian - I'm also interested to see what this cap design will be.

It looks like the stonework should match the Brewery Market quite well.

It does match the brewery really well! It may be a little thing, but I think this is my biggest excitement for development in the city right now. They also have pallets of the black brick on site (it's going on the upper levels of the podium) and they appear to be real, quality full-sized bricks (i.e. not veneer). I think this building is going to set the standard for podiums in Halifax.

Thumbs down

The Window wall panels look reallyt cheap, and there are open gaps. The underside of the balconies are too big and close to the street. maybe they will paint them but UGLY. this is the same architect who designed SPICE and look at the materials used there. The stone looks great, just dont look any higher than the first floor.
