Nope. We'll be seeing Metro Vancouver's tallest buildings going up in Burnaby soon.

Metrotown prices are getting close to Downtown Toronto prices. It seems likely we will see residential towers in Burnaby in the 800 to 900 foot range. Maybe even past 1000 feet. The FSR may need to be bumped up though.

Yes as has been proven again and again that increasing fsr leads to lower prices...
The only thing that has shown to work has been to reduce demand, not the increase in supply.

Can you specify? I assume you mean the price per square foot of a condo over the price per square foot of land. The FSR I've seen for Burnaby wouldn't be profitable in Downtown Toronto.

Or it's a case that Metrotown's 5ish FAR is still damn low to truly satisfy demand.

Aren't developers only going to build enough to satisfy demand and thereby, at a minimum, maintain pricing levels? From what I know, Vancouver isn't under-supplied.

So this will be the first CMA which will see it's tallest outside of that CMA's namesake municipality.

What I meant was that Metrotown prices (per sq foot) are getting to a point where very tall towers are more economically feasible. The FSR would probly need to be bumped up though to accommodate all that sq footage that comes with an 80 or so story tower, depending on the site.

This isn't about whether Burnaby should increase allowable densities. I'm simply stating that allowing more density does perhaps impact pricing.
Downtown Toronto condos could be much higher per square foot if developers couldn't build at the insane 20+ FSR densities.

Gatineau has taller buildings?

Never the less, that CMA is named Ottawa-Gatineau so it's sort of a different beast.

Edit: Ottawa will regain the tallest distinction for its CMA with the Claridge under construction.

Montrealish.

It's a beaut.

Says Hamilton, to Montreal: "I really want to be like you when I grow up"
