This is surprising. Willow Park, SLGA & Sobeys within a couple min drive of each other, meanwhile nothing east of Quance SLGA? (yes, Birminghams & 4Seasons have ramped up their offsales, and White City/Emerald Park will have a Sobeys) I guess this means odds are that Metro Liquor's location will be in the east end, eh?

I did see someone surveying the Southland parking lot this week - the area where the Turbo was, I assume this is where it'll be.

Short of Willow Park relocating & getting an entirely new business strategy in place PDQ, I'd say Sobeys Liquor at Southland will be the nail in their coffin. WP always reminds me of a hospital - quiet, sterile, relatively few people. Sobey's (and Co-op in Stoon) always seem to be alive - never packed, but busy. WP also seems to be continually short stocked (full disclosure, I'm primarily looking at their beer... so maybe wine & spirits are better than Co-op/Sobeys). WP has just never seemed fully invested... despite being the first full-line private store in Regina, which should have given them a running start. Even the opening of their current store was significantly delayed, and they were out of the market for what - 9months to a year? It's sad, really, because both WP stores in Calgary are good.

With Willow relocated into Harbour Landing, Lewvan will act as a natural barrier/collector for them. They should be fine I would think. I haven't been to the Harbour Landing location.

I get what you're saying in theory, but WP is routinely dead. Like deeeeeead. I'm amazed they've been able to survive.

WP's product isn't turning over... the same bottles of speciality beer sit for months. Despite this, there's plenty of unused space in the cooler.

At Sobeys, the product is clearly turning over... there's almost always something new/interesting. And their cooler shelves/stock room are full.

I can only see a Sobeys in their neighbourhood hurting their bottom line.

I think the willow over chargers on almost all there products as well, have not found the same deals as sobeys or even the eastend LB. Went to buy 12 pack of twisted tea at willow and they wanted 38$, i refused to pay and the girl at the till was like taxes have gone up sir this is what it cost. Went to the east end LB and got the same pack for 31$. I certainly will not ever recommend the willow for alcohol purchases.

I was under the impression a private liquor store (I thought Sobeys) was going to open in Acre 21 in the Greens on Gardiner. Does anyone know if that is still the case?

Nope. I mean the owner is an idiot for doing it illegally originally though. An illegal basement suite is one thing, but trying to get 6 units in one house is different.

However densification by 2 four-plex should be encouraged, especially in that neighborhood. I don't understand why the administration would fight it, though I suppose they're technically bound by inflexible zoning.

WP is really hurting. Honestly they lost my respect when they were incompetently switched locations and were closed for months. It's not that hard to negotiate with your landlord for a few extra months or finish you TIs faster.

That said, WP would sell to anyone at this point.

Interestingly the first Calgary location is in an older neighbourhood, Forest Lawn, in a former Taco Bell.

With the downtown skyline in the distance, two John Deere machines were on site to begin digging. Three PCL employees wearing hard hats and safety vests waited for the ceremony to clear out to begin working in the field.

Jeremy Harrison, provincial minister responsible for the GTH and minister responsible for trade, said Brightenview has already shown “significant” investment in this project.
