Yup The Independent has improved the skyline of Mount Pleasant significantly, although from certain angles the far-away towers of Metrotown also make the area look very urban.

Two shots from the Granville Bridge about 9 weeks apart. You can see the difference in the Independent (on the left) and also the growth of the two big towers in the far background in Metrotown (2 cranes just right of centre). Also, The Duke changed colour from yellow to blue.

A hotdog theme: sausage and mustard coloured, with mayo and relish/onion on top as well.

All we need now is some red for ketchup.

If you remember The Rumpus Room on Main, the colour scheme is freakishly similar.

Also I walked past yesterday and the panels on Kingsway were uncovered and they have a fake wood grain look... No comment.

I am liking the articulation of the tower and the fact that all the floor plates are a bit different, in person the actual tower has a Brutalist feel to it the way that the concrete is shaped along the edges and near the top.

Great update thanks! This is definitely more visible that I thought it would be.

I'm really liking the jagged sawtooth look of the one facade but I am a bit worried for the colour scheme. Hopefully it looks more earthtones rather than mustard.

Rumpus Room? What Rumpus Room?

J/K. All I remember of that place were the pink plastic flamingos, just like the ones used by my Uni-day dorm folks during frosh week, with their plastic necks sawed off for beer-chugging. Rumpus Room was mostly bright yellow rather than mustard, no?


I think the upcoming paneling/painting will soften the "Brutalist" look that you felt. It will be a landmark that's for sure.

The coffee shop "Our Town" is closing for good at 11pm tonight. Sad to see the ones that helped make a neighbourhood happening are the first to bite the dust as the gentrification waves keep coming.

I was at Kingsgate Mall again so I took these pics in the heavy rain. I'll try to get some better ones later.

Behold our new giant pixelated hotdog with ketchup and mustard coloured faux wood pattern siding. Maybe somebody could photoshop in some pink flamingos and a RUMPUS ROOM sign on that rendering?

They found Telus Garden's wood-esque panels!

It looks good. I don't love the monolithic podium, but otherwise I think that this building is turning out quite well.

True. It was still quite popular though, with a "so uncool it's cool" vibe.

This thing is going to be such a hot mess. I was going to say it's going to age terribly, but I don't even think it will be great from the get go.
