You know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel when you struggle to retain customers who buy the cheapest thing on the menu, don't tip, complain about everything, and see nothing wrong with ordering hot water and bringing their own tea.

I got this treat from google maps today. Giant Tiger, Tim Hortons, some guy wearing a turquoise flannel shirt with athletic shorts and flip flops, a literal car crash, and lots and lots of parking.

The worst Smitty's in Calgary:

https://www.google.ca/maps/@50.966659,-1...o_SWUqO_aiLU2TNHNcFpw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

On ugly Macleod Trail sandwiched between a RONA and a Walmart in an ocean of parking.

I've never been to a Smitty's. Looks like I haven't missed out on anything.

Best Buy Furniture looks like a winner. It's a baby clockzilla in the making.

But why does McCleod Trail have a chainlink fence down the middle? Is it to catch blowing trash, or so that when suicidal people smash their cars into the jersey barriers, the debris doesn't fly into oncoming traffic?

It's pretty common in Calgary on the medians of major roads near malls - presumably to stop pedestrians from jaywalking across. I remember they had a similar fence at the mall I grew up near (Market Mall) - https://goo.gl/maps/ZJ85pD5FXvo

Another beauty is the median by Chinook.

You can go ahead and jump it. I'll walk to the next light.

Toronto's pedestrians deaths are skyrocketing while Calgary is seeing a decline. The majoirty of deaths occured when the pedestrian had the right of ways but leaves a lot of room for jaywalkers getting hit taking a short cut across a high speed boulevard.

Well they shouldn't need them anymore as they are building an indoor bridge across Macleod directly into the mall. I hold no illusions about any of Macleod trail improving though.

I think the most depressing restaurants in Canada have to be those awful McDonald's inside Walmart. Completely bereft of decor (Save for perhaps giant posters of French Fries). Overflowing garbage cans. Sticky tables. 2 day old tabloid newspapers. Soulless florescent lighting. Fatties and their porky kids. That fucking ugly yellow "slippery floor" sandwich board sign that is ALWAYS out front.

groundspeak, wookiepedia, farm4
