Baffling that a new arena with a junior hockey team as its main tenant would have no standing room. I've been to Wildcats games where there are 3000 empty seats and still 200 people are standing behind the sections.

I don't see why they wouldn't install a couple hundred of those German-style fold-away/rail seats at the top of one of the end sections instead of the regular seats. Takes 2 seconds to turn a key to convert a regular stadium seat into a flat vertical railing when standing room is desired.

The reason for no standing room section is simple...

No Standing Room = People now have to buy a seated ticket = More $$$

Also less chance to show up on @EmptySeatsPics

To be honest I think standing room is dumb (personal opinion), you end up with exactly what felip_ars said empty seats, you also end up with congested walkways and frustration. It will be nice to see people go and sit down, enjoy the game etc.

I was just wondering.. where do they intend to put the benches for the teams? Neither side looks big enough for two benches... even the online drawings just look like two sets of penalty boxes.. or maybe I just need glasses..

In a perfect world, or at an NHL game with its big-city demographics, sure.

But we're talking about Moncton here, which means an assigned seat at a Wildcats game gives you a 20% chance (in my experience) of being stuck with belligerent sugar-fueled seat kickers behind you all night, double that on Timbits weekend or whatever it's called now.

The idea of no longer having the freedom to take refuge in a general admission/standing area = no thanks, I'll skip their Romper Room Sunday games and contribute to the @EmptySeatPics visual.

But yeah, to each their own.

BTW to answer your question - players benches are standard sized and on the side across from the suites/press box.

Haha, I can see that being a pain, that's why it's only my personal opinion, because you have very valid points there as well. I'm sure there will be some areas for people to stand.

I figured, I was just looking at the camera inside the arena and it looked like the area where the benches are going was small, but that could just be the angle.

There is a very sizeable area at the top of the main entry stairs overlooking the bowl, but I think you'd get some rude glares if you jammed that area instead of heading to your seat.

Reminds me of the last time my wife and I took a 10h drive to Montreal for the privilege to overpay for seats at the Bell Centre. The seats were great, until the 6'4" Neanderthal with a sideways mohawk sat in front of us, his arms around a girl on each side of him, both hands holding beer up in the air 90% of the game. I could barely see 1/10 of the ice. He was also drunk, loud and belligerent. Sigh, good times.

So... sounds like you went to a hockey game.

Yup, plan to go again next year!

It was the sideways mohawk that got me. Like really? It was literally like watching a hockey game though a broom.

Maybe someone can answer this for me. Why is the top of the downtown centre clad in different colours of what appears to be a grey tone? And at irregular intervals? I thought I read earlier that it had something to do with "reflection"? To me, it kind of looks a bit odd as if they used whatever they found on hand or as if they ran out of a colour. Thanks.

City of Moncton releases interior drawings for events centre
https://www.telegraphjournal.com/telegraph-journal/story/100180762
Quote:
New conceptual drawings for the City of Moncton's $104-million events centre show what the inside of the main lobby and the arena will look like after the September 2018 completion date.

The colour palate for the arena seats - a mixture of red, grey and black - has been agreed to by council and was presented at Monday's city council meeting during a progress update on the entire project.

Could you post any of the picture, as I am behind the Irving paywall.

Entrance shot looks fantastic.

The Red/black seats look really nice, but what are they thinking having the bottom 5 row seats in a light grey? Bottom few rows are always the last to sell, you absolutely want those seats a dark colour so they're not as noticeable.

Certainly won't look good on TV (for hockey at least) unless the place has 8000+ in attendance.

Yes, they should reverse that color scheme. Black at the bottom and mix the red
going upward, then mix in the grey near to top.

The entrance is awesome, but I guess I am "old school". I am just not fond of mixing seat colours in a random fashion. Maybe different colours for different priced sections or just simply all one colour. This is copying the seat colouring methodology used at the Stadium on UdeM campus with their blue and gold seats.

PS Can anyone answer my query regarding the roof of the complex. It's a few posts above. Thanks so much!

Looks great except for what looks like dropped ceiling tiles in the main lobby. Seems like an odd choice.
