From the site plan, there don't appear to be any businesses with entrances exclusively on 4th Street so that shouldn't be a problem.

Not a fan of the new 880 renderings. Looks cheap. And I agree about the food mall fad. Not great for cities as a whole- though I do appreciate the catalyst they've been to the EST.

Restaurant owners are already saying that the Intown market is saturated with so many new offerings in all the new developments. In the Midtown core we have Colony Square planning a food hall (if they don't sign Eataly), The Canteen on 5th and Whole Foods basically functions in a similar way. There is going to be a period where some good restaurants may not make it.

It's possible, and definitely something existing restaurants should consider. But in Midtown there are thousands of new residents already, thousands more on the way, and also thousands of new office workers and hotel guests coming soon. How many jobs are there just between CODA and NCR? How many of them will be eating lunch in Midtown?

On Alexan 880, I'm glad its only 22 floors.

This particular Food Hall will be on the Tech Campus so I suspect it will have plenty of patronage and cater primarily to students and researchers (its pretty small). As for Alexan 880 this is better than I hoped for given the developer-- TCR is NOT known for producing great (or even good) architecture. they are merchant builders turned developers-- its ALL about the bottom line and little else.

What is the conceptual difference between modern food halls and the old timey food courts?

Those renderings don't look to cater to students. Looks pretty high end like they are aiming for more than just student patronage.

Food Halls emphasize high end local restaurant concepts (Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market)-- Food Courts fast food and chains (Any Mall USA). Different animals, one current, one pretty much on the way out.

Its on the Tech Campus-- it will in some way cater to students-- also keep in mind these buildings will be filled with tech firms and researchers perhaps giving it a higher end emphasis-- Techies want authenticity(?)

I almost didn't realize that was Atlanta. That building is in a league of its own and modernizes the Buckhead skyline. I like it.

With a telephoto lens from just the perfect angle, unfortunately. However, it is fun to imagine how large our skyline would look/be if laid out like most cities. I'd love to see a doctored image of all of Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead's current buildings squeezed together in a dense fashion like Chicago or New York.

Atlanta's skyline is still impressive regardless of angles. To be fair, New York's skyline is not quite seamless. There is a clear gap between downtown and midtown. Chicago has buildings stringing along the coastline well beyond the Loop. It's not really any different than the Peachtree Road corridor. Atlanta is not unusual in having multiple skylines either. New York is developing a separate skyline in Brooklyn. Houston, Dallas, and LA all have more than one. The gap between downtown and midtown Atlanta is growing less pronounced. Once the Lilli tower is up, it will look even less noticable. I like the long skyline. From Piedmont Park and the areas surrounding it gives a nice contrast.

Also, re: CODA, I don't think those are renderings. They look like pictures of restaurants that already exist. So maybe that's just the style and vibe they're going for. As far as we know, they haven't leased any of the space to particular restaurants. I think with the huge number of people CODA will be bringing to the area, plus the Standard going up across the street and NCR, Modera, and the Alexan two/three blocks north, there will be plenty of people to support these restaurants. I've also noticed an uptick in tourists in Midtown, and tourists love foodhalls.

Yeah, this development cycle has pretty much filled in the gaps between the core of Midtown and the Bank of America. Hopefully we'll start filling in down towards Peachtree Center soon.

Definitely. From the 2nd photo, the place behind Ovenly is Takumi Taco, an asian fusion place in NYC. Would LOVE IT if they came down to ATL.
