Canadian North flights 436/437 will temporarily operate their Boeing 737-200 for this week, until probably Saturday. The 737-200 was ferried to Ottawa last night as MPE9860.

Their 737-300 has been sent to Windsor as MPE9861, presumably for maintenance at Premier Aviation.

I spotted a 5T 732 landing tonight at 2023. At 2020, 3 minutes earlier, I got a real treat as an IL-76 landed on 07.

Earlier in the day at around 1830, I saw a CargoJet 763 with winglets landing and then saw the same aircraft departing at 2030 no doubt to YHM. The arrival must have been from YFB.

Lastly a DL 752 brought the NY Rangers to town earlier this afternoon. Go Sens!

Regarding that CargoJet Boeing 767-300: It appears that every Wednesdays this how the aircraft is utilized: CJT1574 (YHM-YOW), CJT270 (YOW-YFB), CJT270 (YFB-YOW), and CJT1573 (YOW-YHM).

I've been wondering. Does anyone know if traffic data is measured and available for XDS? If so, I think those numbers could be fascinating.

It's airshow time! Keep an eye out for the Patrouille de France Alpha jets and their A400 support plane, arriving on Friday, as well as a pair of Royal Air Force Typhoon jets and an RCAF CF-18, which arrive Saturday:

That makes sense in terms of rotating a 767 for CargoJet's food mail sub-contract with 7F. 727s still the rest of the week as far as I know.

I forgot that I also spotted yesterday at around 1230 downtown a red Gov't Search & Rescue chopper (Coast Guard?) and then at around 1830 I spotted a CH-147 Chinook helicopter on finals for 07. Great day for spotting yesterday.

Do you mean the rail passenger numbers or the AF-KL bus numbers? For the rail, Via has never disclosed yearly station-specific rail pax stats anywhere at least that I'm aware of. However in recent times, they have published seasonal stats: http://www.viarail.ca/en/about-via-rail/...r-2016-a-record-breaking-summer-via-rail

Quote:

HIGHLIGHTS

From June 21 to September 6, 2016:

In anticipation of high ridership over the summer, we increased the capacity of several trains in the Québec City – Windsor corridor and adjusted our schedule in order to offer greater flexibility to the 839,000 passengers who chose to take the train.

The city of Toronto attracted the greatest number of travellers by far, followed closely by Montréal and Ottawa. These destinations were chosen by 269,000, 159,000, and 102,000 travellers respectively.
That works out to 1308 pax per day at the Ottawa Station over 78 days last summer (I'm guessing this excludes Barrhaven??). That seems awfully low given there are about 12 trains departures/day on average (factoring in reduced weekend service). That = only 55 pax per arrival/departure on average. That clearly must exclude Barrhaven in that case. It seems like about 1/3 of the train nowadays on average gets off/on in Barrhaven whenever I've taken it.

Quote:
Additionally, since VIA Rail quadrupled the number of direct trips offered between Québec City, Montréal, and Ottawa, it has never been easier to plan a round trip between the nation’s capital and Québec City. In fact, more than 139,000 passengers travelled between the two cities over the past few months.
The 139k mark I'm guessing was the 12 months rolling total = 381 pax/day.???

HIGHLIGHTS
From December 19, 2016 to January 8, 2017:

Toronto's Union Station, a transit point for 167,000 travellers was especially busy during the holiday period. Respectively, Montreal and Ottawa saw 85,200 and 70,600 passengers pass through their stations to be reunited with family and friends.
For that 21 day period for Ottawa, that = 3362 pax/day = 140 pax/trip. You'd think this must include Barrhaven.

On a separate note, AC163 YOW-YVR diverted to YWG one day last week: http://avherald.com/h?article=4a82b0d9&opt=0

Yeah, I'm referring to the passengers boarding airline buses (Air France, KLM, Swiss) as an "official" leg of a PNR.

The Swiss bus was actually discontinued leaving only AF-KL. You'd have to fork over a few thousand $ probably to Sabre to get that data.

However, making a few assumptions would give a rough idea. Assume:
-3 departures/arrivals per day (fact).
-Each bus seats 50 pax
-Each trip has a 50% load factor (likely a very conservative estimate).

That would = 150 pax /day = 54,750 pax per year. That's probably less than 10% of the leakage to YUL per year.

I have taken the bus a few times and passed on on the 417 a lot more times. 50% load seems about right.

You think we lose 500,000 pax to Montreal a year?

At the very least. As YOW has gotten weaker the past 4 years and YUL's hub vastly stronger, I'd imagine leakage has grown significantly again.

My interpretation of those numbers is they are arrivals only, so you wouldn't you need to double them to get the PAX (assuming the number of arrivals and departures are approximately equal)?

It's tough to say without any specifics. The do seem like entrained (equivalent to enplaned? ) passengers only.

Oh yeah today marks the start of AC's ex-YOW transcons going to 300 series flight numbers and YOW turning into E90 heaven. The first AND ONLY scheduled A320 arrival today is AC340 from YVR at 1656...depressing! The next one is AC342 form YVR at 0116 tomorrow morning.

Also:
--> WS3403 YQB-YYZ diverted to YOW this morning for some reason.
--> Today marks the switch for WS from winter Florida to summer domestic flying. I see WS224 from YEG is actually a 738 today. WS374 arriving at 0004 from YYZ is also showing as a 738 and WS340 (odd eh that both AC and WS now both use flight # 340 at YOW) from YWG is showing up as a 738 tomorrow too.
--> Today also marks the start of WG's summer/year-round service to VRA for I believe the 3rd summer in a row.

The plane and crew must have had a long wait.

Another summer addition will begin next Monday with WS resuming YOW-YYT-LGW service.

That's true and YOW-FRA returns soon after that.

Makes you wonder whether if that's to make up for all the oversells thanks to the 95% E90 equipment that started today?

If you do a dummy booking, you'll see that for the next week there's practically no Tango fares available...and Rapidair has a tonne of last-minute bookings.
