Considering that Vancouver is known as "no fun city", pretty much anything can fullfil LeftCoasters' promise of something "fun".

I doubt it is a tower.

Maybe some sort of retail store with "fun" in the name?

Or maybe a Chucky Cheese in Pacific Centre? Haha.

Haha, you must forgive me, the last time I patronized one was over 20 years ago. (To be honest I don't even know if they exist in Metro-Van any more)

Apparently there's one in Langley. I didn't think kids knew how to play games without a touch screen anymore.

I remember going to one in Burnaby (I think?) when I was a kid. I don't know if it was Chuck E Cheese or a knockoff concept.

CF properties are:

Pacific Centre
Pender Place
HSBC Building
Waterfont Centre
CP Station

.... maybe something "fun" in the HSBC atrium?

Another for the rumour mill:

Singaporean billionaire plans to build Asian art museum in Vancouver

Chuck Chiang
(Vancouver Sun)

Published: April 18, 2017
Updated: April 19, 2017 7:20 PM

One of Southeast Asia’s richest men, and a part-time Vancouver resident, wants to build a “world-class” museum dedicated to Asian and Buddhist art in the city.

Oei Hong Leong, who is ranked by Forbes as the 19th richest man in Singapore with a personal net worth of $1.2 billion, usually keeps a low profile in Vancouver. But he said in a rare interview Wednesday that he wants to go public with the museum proposal because he believes it could be a significant cultural addition to Vancouver and B.C.

...

The possibility of an Asian art museum in Vancouver has been discussed by several groups in recent years. In addition to Centre A (the Vancouver International Centre of Contemporary Asian Art), proponents such as West Vancouver philanthropist Robert H.N. Ho and China’s Poly Culture Group have put forward ideas for a museum dedicated to Chinese art.

...

Oei’s most notable holding in Vancouver is the Plaza of Nations, which has been owned by his Canadian Metropolitan Properties Corp. since a deal with Concord Pacific (then owned by Hong Kong magnate Li Ka-shing) in 1989. He is currently embroiled in a legal dispute over future development on the site (again with Concord Pacific, whose majority stakeholder is now the Hui family).

I hope this is true. Vancouver needs more philanthropic contributors to the arts. How a city with so many Ferraris can have so few philanthropists is bizarre, and kind of sad.

3 in Downtown

Just to keep everyone's wheels turning, I can throw out that there are currently three major projects incoming on prominent roads in the Downtown peninsula. I should be able to say more before the end of the year. Enjoy!

Great job teasing us! This is why I like this thread, although some of the comments would turn out to be BS.

If I would have to guess something, a tower next to Granville Bridge, along Burrard Street and at Bay parkade.

There's also Westbank's redevelopment of the Central Heating plant.

That's about as vague as an astrologist.

Nice to see an upgrade to an existing building. Is CF doing with triple pane glass? If you know the specs and can share them send them my way as we are starting to price out options as well, although we're a few years off.

Cool, thanks - I think.

Weird how Cannaccord is the newest of the original Cesar Pelli buildings - 700 & 701 West Georgia are older - but that one is being reclad.
It would be a real pain in the neck to have our building (TD Tower) reclad, as a lot of the build-in desk furniture is adjacent to the curtain wall)

Also strange that they respected the exterior of the towers at Mies' TD Centre in Toronto, but are changing Pacific Centre.
Mind you, they've changed Eaton Centre a lot too.

It's definitely not an easy task but a LOT of pre-planning and communication should lead to as smooth a process as possible.

As for the age, despite the similar shape of the buildings the glazing systems are different and the TD/IBM system has held up much better than the Canaccord system.

Very expensive and non-recoverable in practice.

Sounds like we are losing a distinct dark building to get another clone clear-glass tower. "Less mirrored and lighter" says the announcement.

I thought the exact same thing.

I was hoping that the "fun" announcement was actually going to be something fun, such as adding some light / animation / screens to the Nordstrom building.
