One thing he's got right - our city's leadership is definitely holding us back. The issue is an outgrowth of an apathetic citizenry that has no interest in demanding more from city government. Those who benefit from the status quo (unions and welfare leeches) make up the majority of voters, so until that changes, our growth will be limited by our dysfunctional city government.

I guess I never paid attention to the "atmosphere" of the NFL draft (or really any aspect of it except whom the Eagles drafted), but I feel that it's usually held in arenas and such. I went by the Art Museum earlier and it looked phenomenal: Art Museum as the backdrop with sweeping Center City views. It's not only amazing but I think it's remarkably different from past drafts (I think). Have past drafts been held in similar settings?

I think one day of the draft was held outside in Chicago last year, but otherwise it's always indoors, usually in NYC. So yeah, this is a huge change, and I am reaaaally hoping the weather cooperates!!

Kimpton has stated that they have no relationship to this proposal (2016) and there really are no 5* Kimptons (If this really is a 5*). Plus Philly already has the #2 and #3 rated Kimptons in the U.S., so I'd be surprised if they would compromise them with another hotel. This is such a spectacular building/location that it could be just about any of the top luxury brands in the boutique class.

Honestly, I read the headline and decided; "I'm not reading this 🞵🞵🞵🞵" and closed the page.

Plus, I've always bought into the idea that being a Philadelphian is something that takes a different mindset to appreciate. I don't know. Perhaps it's that I was raised in the Philly area, or maybe it's my love for Philly sports, but something tells me that our general attitude as Philadelphians is just something we do differently than people from other cities.

Maybe the author should ride around half of Delco and tell us why the Republican leadership in Media has let half of their county look like a dump. I had the unfortunate experience of having to work in Essington for 5 long years. I hated it there. It's depressing.

Philadelphia's most pressing need is tax reform. It needs to totally revamp how it taxes for revenue. Adding taxes like a soda tax only makes things worse. However, does anyone in City Hall have the gonads to do it?

That is amazing growth! For a city that had a Gentlemen's Agreement, urban highways rip through our urban fabric, and a bottoming-out of population, we are doing pretty well. While there is room for improvement, I would take the Philly of 2017 over that of 1992 (even though I was born in 1995).

This reminds me of how I would love for the music video of Bruce Springsteen's "Philadelphia" to be redone. It would occur in the same neighborhoods and along the same streets, but with footage from 2017 as opposed to 1993. That would really highlight how much Philly (and Camden) has changed!

I'm pretty sure the first NFL draft was held in the Ritz Carlton, right here in Philadelphia. It moved around a bit then did like 60+ years in NYC. Chicago the last two years and now Philadelphia again on the parkway.

I drove by it as well, and it looks amazing.

CARTERET, N.J. -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie marked the opening of an Amazon facility that he says is one of three new centers that will create at least 2,500 full-time jobs.

Christie on Friday toured the facility and even took a turn filling an order in the giant warehouse.

The Republican governor says the center is one of three new facilities, bringing Amazon's footprint in the state to 10.

Christie used the visit in Carteret to tout the state's economic recovery as well. Federal data this week showed New Jersey's unemployment rate fell from 4.4 percent to 4.2 percent last month. Christie says it's the lowest rate since 2007.

That's despite losing more than 17,000 jobs in March.

Christie also pointed out that's below the federal level of 4.5 percent.

Amazon has few to no fulfillment centers/warehouses in cities. Operating in a city would be far more expenses, particularly one with wage tax and BIRT like Philly.

A few comments:

The NFL Draft on the Parkway is wow ... weeks in production. I live in Fairmount..., its been crazy, street closures for weeks, the gigantic stage building, fences have lined the Parkway from the Art Museum to the Barnes for a week -- this feels bigger than the Pope visit at this point. I'm not complaining, I enjoy the lunacy of it all. There's so many tents set up now you'd think it was Munich during Oktoberfest.

It's great to hear 1801 Vine hotel conversion is still on. There's so much construstion/chaos with the partial capping and improvements going on here--now would've been the time to cap the whole damn thing for Logan Square. But still excited about a completed Alexander, Penn Dot to wrap up, 1801 Vine St, and the eventual Catholic Church buildings.

And finally, I didn't even bother reading the Delco Times article. My experience has been that everyone under the age of 40 absolutely loves Philly and thinks its pretty badass. The old heads/negadelphians will die off soon enough........

I've got to say that's an incredibly simple and stupid statement to make. Maybe like saying-----------------------
I once said don't trust anyone over 30. Now it seems like many/most(?) 25 year olds are still living at home, learning how to walk and wear long pants and discovering the world outside of their smart phones.
But don't worry, you'll become an "old head" whether you like it or not! It happens.
