Someone posted this pic from a National Post article about the real estate slump in the Calgary Construction thread. Everything about it is hideous. Beyond the for sale signs just look at the identical beige siding, cheap concrete walkway and treeless front lawns. 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 awful!

The mattress for sale for $60 across the street from the high tech funeral "complex" covered in ivy is what really makes that scene. If either one were missing, it wouldn't be anywhere near as perfect.

Definitely must have been a bank at one point in time. It's funny seeing Timmy's repurpose old buildings from other cities as here it's usually the reverse. You can spot an old Timmy's that's been repurposed like an old Pizza Hut. My favourite is still the Funeral Home occupying an old Timmy's in the parking lot of a new Timmy's in the NE.

Never noticed this before. Is it common for developer's in Calgary to pour concrete walkways to the homes?

It is our Chinatown. How would one know? Well they painted the streetlights red and they have fancy street signs. Yes, that succeeded in creating a sense of place.

They do for many of the new semi detached and small sfh's with garages in the alley. It is an improvement over the front garages but the cheap concrete blocks they tend to use for the walkways combined with lack of trees and tiny lots can definitely ugly it up.

Wow..that is fugly. That restaurant is kind of vague in their cuisine. They have 'chinese' which I assume involves chicken balls and some day glow red sauce and they also have 'western' cuisine. 🞵🞵🞵 is that. Usually it is 'Canadian' cuisine whatever that is.

There's no longer a restaurant there. In fact, there wasn't one in 2009 (earliest google imagery) That's a depressingly ugly street.

edit ... it was a grocery store.

I've seen many "Chinese and Western food" restaurants in small towns in the prairies.

The runner up to Macleod Trail would have to be 16th Ave.
