CCW as a road made perfect sense. Inkster between 101 and Route 90 was a dangerous road before CCW and desperately needing to be twined. The CP main line also crossed the route and needed grade separation. There would also have been exportations of developed properties needed.

Separate from that there was an at-grade rail crossing on the Perimeter needing grade separation. Sasktchewan+101 was a signalled intersection which had been the location of some deadly accidents, not unlike Pipeline+101 now.

On top of all this the Headingley by-pass which has been on the books almost as long as 59N+101 interchange would need to connect up to the Perimeter somewhere.

The CCW project actually addressed all of these important issue. Sure it has some future proofing built into the road but part of that is the commercial truck traffic which is intended for CCW is still using other routes as phase 2, aka the Headingley by-pass, has yet to start construction.

This all brings a slight tear to my eye as there is a plan to tie the Red River Ex site traffic into CCW. Had IGF been built there as once proposed the traffic issues IGF has now would never have happened.

Maybe this has been touched on already here in the past, but does anyone know why when building CCW, they put lights at both Sturgeon and the Sturgeon Access? Would it not have made made sense to just put one light only?

Because this is Manitoba. Why would we put up a set of lights on the 59 just for a Tim Hortons? Or why would we put up lights when 2 major highways meet (Route 90 and the Perimeter)? We have this addiction to traffic lights that no other place seems to have.

I think the long term plan is to build a connection between Sturgeon Access and Hwy 6. While the older Sturgeon was setup to hook into Roser Rd, aka Inkster west of Sturgeon. That said it will be interesting to see how the HWY 6 extension deals the train tracks. That could be two new grade separations there as the Perimeter/HWY 6 would need one as well.

I thought highway 6 was to connect to CCW at that curve north of the train tracks - that the curve was put there for a future interchange and or intersection that would connect CCW, Chief Peguis, and Highway 6?

Strugeon south access will connect ot the Silver Ave freeway if that's ever built, that will run eastward through Murray Park and connect to St. Matthews at Ferry.

Sturgeon north access, which currently connects to the Inkster interchange at 101, will either be re-routed southward to a new interchange location between CCW and Inskter on 101, or be upgraded at its current location.

CCW itself will have an interchange at the curve north of the tracks. The curve was specifically put in there to minimize re-work on the road alignments when an interchange goes in. From the north will be Chief Peguis Trail, Inkster to the east, CCW to the south and the new Hwy 6 extension on the west.

This would be the CentrePort highway network complete, of course missing the Headingley bypass (I like drawing pictures haha):

-Henderson and CPT
-Bishop Grandin and St. Mary's Road
-Bishop Grandin and River Road
-McGillivray and Kenaston
-Lagimodiere and Regent
-Lagimodiere and Fermor

Some of those would require fairly large interchanges, but I think a simple diamond at Bishop and River would offer pretty awesome bang for the buck.
I'd say Inkster & McPhillips. You can never get through on a single light cycle during Rush hour.

Neither of those is ever going to be a free flowing road though. That's like the whole debacle with the Marion Archibald thing. It would be over building. Putting an interchange up to avoid waiting a light cycle is bad reasoning. Adding 5 minutes to a commute is not the end of the world. Putting up interchanges along a high speed freeway is where we should be focusing our efforts not only increasing existing roads' capacity but also making them safer. Heck we shouldn't even be considering new roads until we get our current network up to standard.

The medium term plan is a lot of the Inkster traffic will be moved to Chief Pegius Trail once that route is built out. With that in mind it doesn't make sense to be sinking money into McPhillips and Inkster until after that project is done and the new traffic counts can be considered.

Little off topic but the cones are down on the Plessis overpass. Doesn't appear any work was done. Maybe some structural work on the underside.

Anyone notice the Rapid Transit construction on Pembina Hway (around Taylor ave and Grant Ave cross) from April 2017 to December 2019? What is that?

I talked with somebody at Easter Sunday Brunch who lives in the area and was told that is exactly what was done. I was told there were steel beams and columns added under the pavement next to the existing ones to reinforce the structure.

Southwest Transitway will be under construction during that time, from Jubilee to U of M. I'm not sure exactly what you seen, a sign of some sort or the construction at Jubilee?

I have the day off and need a Timmies fix. I'll do the Tim's on Dugald Rd and drive by the overpass on the way back to see what I can see and report back.

Strengthening the pier caps and columns. The work has been ongoing for almost a year now. Contractor has to complete the work in the time between CN trains passing by, and apparently CN is not very cooperative

Speaking of that bridge...there's a handy website that someone created that has a few more details. Someone actually submitted FIPPA requests to get all this information!!

Oh —. I thought we were talking Plessis Underpass at Dugald. Not the Rail Overpass on Fermor. Yeah that bridge is falling down and needs replacement.

For the transitway thing. I get it. Yes the Pembina underpass at Jubilee will be under construction until fall 2019.

Ok just having my Tea and Cinnamon bun so I can say that highways has put steel up along the inside of the pier and then had sections fabricated to follow the bends at the top caps. Actually looks sort of neat
