Might be a smaller tower rising. I think we can see it in the pic above.

Re building next to 50 west: White panels (Aluminum?) are being affixed on top of the brick facade for a new look. The windows are not being replaced as of yet.

Looking good. Love the glass on this. I wonder if FIDI will start to fell more alive as some of the newer towers come to fruition. The population is supposed to have either doubled or tripled since 2000, but it still feels kind of dead.

Carter Reviews 50 West Street, Helmut Jahn's "Shimmering Sentinel"
March 1, 2017
Quote:
This shimmering sentinel at 50 West Street, a taller, kindred spirit to the glorious, curved reflective glass tower at 17 State Street overlooking the harbor, is a major addition to Lower Manhattan’s celebrated and changing skyline. The 778-foot-high tower has a roof slanted upwards toward the pinnacle of One World Trade Center, a few blocks to the north.

Lower Manhattan is more livelier than ever. See a lot of baby strollers and young folks around.

Even at night, I've noticed a lot of younger folks in the FiDi. Even late at night!

I mean, if we are talking like a really cold day, you might not see as big of a crowd on lets say a nice summer night. But people are out. Its not the pure madness of Midtown, but it's quite busy most of the day.

Will they be lighting up the mechanical section, or is this doomed to be another good looking skyscraper that disappears in the dt skyline when the sun goes down?

111 Murray might take the spotlight when finished. Its design is a magnitude higher than 50 West. Better crown, facade, and I think, location. IMO of course. 50 West is still great. Likewise for 99 Church, which blends into the area very well. You'd almost be inclined to forget it was built recently. That's how well it blends into the urban fabric.

111 Murray has a better design, but I think the glass they chose for 50 West is much nicer. Both great buildings.
