I think you're better off seeking dying mall status in Parkway & Loch Lomond Malls, both of which have effectively been repurposed away from being malls and towards being multi-use suburban commercial/office spaces.

It does still seem like Starbucks is having some difficulties in the area regardless...maybe Saint Johners are stuck on other brands or not as heavy into the coffee as the Moncton market but my google research shows a huge disparity in SBuks location count now...also Fredericton appears to have theirs all lumped into one block haha

Yeah, Freddy only has the 2 Starbux now; one next to Shoppers on Prospect and one in the mall.

Ideally, we should have a downtown location, but I think the chain wants a drivethru and the city won't allow new drivethrus downtown (ESPECIALLY not on the Regent and King intersection where they were going to go, across from Tims).

If/when 2NC's Smart Centre does another construction, I could see one going up there; especially after the 2NC/Ring Road intersection is finally completed. That will become a major commuter route then when Marysville/ St Marys traffic can reach the Ring Road and go into the city from 2NC (instead of using Maple street)

Actually the community with the most Starbucks in the province is Dieppe (4)

Dieppe - 4
Moncton - 3
Fredericton - 2
Saint John - 2

I don't know why Starbucks would demand a drive-thru in a downtown Freddy location. The store in downtown Moncton doesn't have a drive-thru.......

It's been a few years; they were going to go into the old bus station, and remodelled the building with obvious space/setup for a drivethru. It was all done but for the signage basically, before Starbux cancelled the plans. I can't remember the details, but they obviously expected to have the DriveThru, but at the last minute the city nixed the plan and Starbux backed out completely. (I'm thinking there was a game of chicken going on, and/or Starbux figured the grandfathered DriveThru at Tims across the street would be too much competition).

Although the Downtown Dieppe location was given special permission for a drive-thru. Despite the fact the area is a "no Drive-Thru" area.

So this might be why Starbucks is fighting for Drive-thru's where non exist, or needed.

Both S.J and Freddy seem to more populated with local coffee shops, than Moncton. Moncton does seem a bit over crazed with it's chain coffee/restaurants. Just a general observation.

Oh there are tons of local coffee spots here too and over 30 Tims too...like you said coffee crazed haha...I'm the odd duck around here since I despise standard coffee, however I do like specialty drinks from Sbux like frappuccino

I find it odd that Charlottetown has as many Starbucks as Saint John. Only one of them has a drive-thru. At one time they actually had 3 of them with no drive-thrus, one in Target, and two downtown.

Actually, I think there are three Saint John Starbucks if you include the one inside the Indigo bookstore, besides the stand alone eastside location and the west end store.

Someone a few posts up mentioned that the Indigo Starbucks will be closing in a few weeks.

I don't think the lack of drivethru was the issue; I heard there were various issues with the lease. Also if you look at the building it doesn't look set up for a drivethru at all. There was also never an application for a variance for a drivethru.

I asked earlier today an employee, at Indigo, if they were going to take over the space left from Starbucks, but he said no, it has already been leased to another company. He doesn't know who it is, but they think it might be another coffee shop.

This is true, but as another user pointed out, the announcement of the Indigo Starbucks' forthcoming closure is what started this whole Starbucks conversation in the first place.

That said, if it's true that they're scouting for an uptown location, we might not be down to 2 for long. I seem to recall some speculation when the Brunswick Square location closed that it had a lot to do with the shopping centre's short hours and that we might potentially see them look for a street location uptown. Could this be coming to fruition now, if UptownJeff's rumour pans out? Time will tell!
