I was looking at some pics of the new Revere Medical Clinic in Salem(now completed) and remembered what a beautiful area of the Valley Salem is located in. Looking at pics of Alpine and Salem made me very homesick. So many gorgeous spots in Utah Valley!

More freeway widening and construction going up in Lehi soon. Yay!

This was set to start in 2020 but after a number of people in the area complained about traffic being bad (who would have thought, with how well planned out Thanksgiving Point has been?) they got it moved up to 2018.

Tony, Did I read the article correctly? It seems like the decision to move the date up is still not decided. I hope they do move it up. Kind of odd that of all areas they chose to leave a bottleneck, it would be the fastest growing area in the metro.

This article is a notch old, but yes that group got the legislator to move the date up to 2018.

Good to hear. That border area of Utah/Salt Lake Valley is a big part of what is driving the metro's economic engine. It would be pretty short sided not to address the issue immediately.

Also, speaking of that area. Highrise Mike, It's been too long since one of your stellar photo updates. I imagine that many of those projects are now completed, and even a couple of new ones have popped up. I so look forward to your pics. I hope you'll be able to pencil in a little time in the near future to cover the growth of that amazing area.

Most of the projects are finished and there hasn't really been much of anything starting recently in the Thanksgiving Point/Travers Mountain area.

I realize most are finished. I can't help myself though, since this area of the valley is my old stomping grounds. I'm always aching to see pics of anything related to Northern Utah Valley, even recently finished projects.

Here's one of the newly completed projects. I imagine this looks pretty cool from I-15.

On October 12, 2016, we celebrated the opening of the UCCU Financial Center in the heart of Lehi. A Ribbon Cutting ceremony kicked off a series of Open Houses that were free to the public. Mike Orme, Chairman of The UCCU Board of Directors, cut the official ribbon as Lehi Mayor Bert Wilson said: “This is really one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve had the opportunity to be in.”

Driving North from AF main street along I-15 yesterday I noticed some land being moved and some initial work going on just south of the UCCU building. Don't usually drive that section of I-15 since it is easier to drive 100 E up to Timpanogos Highway. Not sure what is going in that location but maybe someone else here does.

I worry opportunity cost is high by building such sprawling complexes. What happens when the limited land there builds out? Where will new office space go? (Hint: NOT Lehi)

If this Silicon Slopes thing is really as big as advertised, then Lehi leaders really should be pushing for buildings more like UCCU and fewer like this proposed development.

Thanks for that post JMK. I agree that those expansive campuses are not exactly what we would like to see by way of urbanism. One thing to keep in mind though is, they do continue to rapidly draw down the amount of available land to be extravagant with. Also, most of these campuses to have a layout that can easily be made denser as the metro matures. Admittedly, I think the look of those buildings are pretty cool.

There was a nice update on Ken's new endeavor in the Deseret News today. I'm really hoping this thing takes off gangbusters for him. Reason being, he is one individual that I know will take a lot of his available resources to create some pretty cool developments throughout the Wasatch Front. The Air Center in Downtown Salt Lake didn't pan out for now, but knowing Ken he'll keep at it until outstanding developments do pan out. If nothing else he's doggedly persistent, and many things have already showed a lot of success for him.

Edit: I've posted the following pictures purely as an appreciation of their architectural design aesthetic. From a subjective view point, I'm hoping that the design chosen for the announced Saratoga Springs religious structure is another reflection of historical craftsmanship. That is just my opinion of the architectural aspect and it's contribution to the community. It's unfortunate that someone would feel compelled to raise the ugly face of bigotry, as seen in the follow-up post. (Note, follow-up post was deleted...Thanks Viperlord)

I think most on this forum have a respectful opinion on their preferred style for religious structures, be it contemporary or hearkening back to the more traditional. Also, some have expressed an opinion that they wish these structures would be built at the core of the city, vs. say on a hill outside of town.

The announcement of an LDS Temple for Saratoga Springs is not surprising, as this areas population is exploding. The Tri-City Lehi/Saratoga Springs/Eagle Mtn. now serves some 27 LDS Stakes.

If only from a design perspective, I am excited to see what the LDS Church will pursue as the style for this building. Perhaps, along the historical lines of so many of the recent temples like Philadelphia, Meridian, Cedar City, etc.

Also, I'm thinking it would probably be perched on one of the benches on the west side of town. The views there, over the Lake and Timp/Wasatch are surreal.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - Five new temples were announced by President Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement came during his address at the 187th annual General Conference.

One of the five new temples will be built in Saratoga Springs...

...The LDS Church does own property within Saratoga Springs but there is no word as to where the church will break ground on the new temple, but speculation has already started...

...The groundbreaking served as the final public moment of the university’s 75th anniversary celebration, which began with the announcement that a historic $22 million in private donations was raised in two years to fund the building. The state Legislature has agreed to provide another $32 million over two years for the project. The building will cost $60 million.

...The building will include 130,000 square feet of performing and teaching space, a 900-seat concert hall, a 501-seat proscenium theater with an orchestra pit, a dance hall with retractable seats and a choral ensemble venue. The entrance plaza to the building will double as an outdoor performance venue.

The building is scheduled to be completed in January 2019.
