That's the play. You want 11 so you propose 17.

And the residents over there constantly bemoan the lack of "new park space." If they weren't so rabidly allergic to building height, they could leverage taller, narrower developments in exchange for more public open space.

...but no one said that West Looper CAVE people (aka Citizens Against Virtually Everything, NIMBY is too mild of a term for them ) were ever logical when it comes to development.

It's definitely not living up to the rendering anyway.
Yes, when did painted patterns on building become a substitute for actual architectural detailing. Buildings like 73 East lake use the same gimmick to disguise their terrible detailing and make an illusion of architecture where there is none.

That 3 block area is in the process of being so transformed so quickly with bKL's 720, JDL's 640, The Gallery, The Bentham, The Marlowe, and Cedar Street's renovation at 676 N. Lasalle. Will be hardly recognizable soon....in a good way.

At this time, it's probably certain to say the Ibero-American tower listed on the first page is not happening, especially with the other end of the block being developed.

It always was just a vision, not a serious plan

I live on Huron between Wells and LaSalle and am excited for them to all be complete. It'll have been pretty much 4-5 years of nonstop construction nose, dust, and inconvenience but I think the payoff will be worth it.

215 W Hubbard and 311 W Illinois

311 W Illinois

215 W Hubbard

If you look closely between the El tracks and support beams, you can see the office portion of 215 W Hubbard's pillars emerging from the ground and headed skyward.

This is from a friend's place at 220 W Illinois, looking North. It's incredible how this view has filled in, and with Lincoln Park and Old Town in the background, the skyline is really filling in and expanding. Such a good view.

The Mich Avenue Apple Store adds glass.

Also, if anyone was interested as to where tower cranes are conceived.. This lot right at Halsted and Division is where crane parts are stored before they head to the site for installation. Lots are stacked up!

Will there be many surface parking lots left in your area after all the current construction is completed?

No doubt this boom will devour a significant portion of surface/vacant lots, but there's still a pretty decent number available. For surface lots or essentially vacant property within about 3-4 blocks of me:

These will probably remain but do have active proposals, just not any certainty yet (no permits, no loan, etc):
NW Clark/Huron (hotel)
SW Ohio/Wells (condo)
NW Wells/Chicago (condo)
NW Franklin/Huron (condo)
NW Huron/Dearborn (mixed-use)

These are surface lots actively used as lots tied to a company or org:
SE Lasalle/Erie (Catholic Charities)
N side of Huron midway between Clark and Lasalle (Catholic Charities)
McDonalds' parking lot
NE Erie/Orleans (tenants of building south of lot)
SE Chicago/Lasalle (Currency Exchange)
NW Erie/Franklin (tenants of the building west of the lot)
NE Clark/Ontario (Walgreens)
SE Clark/Ontario (Hard Rock Cafe)
NW Lasalle/Ontario (BP gas station)
NW Orleans/Chicago (Shell gas station)
SW Chicago/Wells (BP gas station)
South side of Ontario between Lasalle/Wells (Sports Authority building, also a small lot for Al's Beef)
NW Ohio/Lasalle (Ohio House)
W Wells midway between Ontario and Ohio (City Cat Doctor)
E Wells midway between Chicago and Superior (Brehon Pub)

These are surface/vacant lots with no known proposals:
N side of Chicago midway between Wells/Franklin
S side of Chicago midway between Wells/Lasalle
SE Sedgwick/Huron
SW Ontario/Franklin
NW Ohio/Franklin
NE Ohio/Franklin
SE Orleans/Institute

Looks like there's an updated design in this PDF:

http://bidroom.net/poulos/210407/PLANS/A-000_1.PDF

Doesn't look like anything special.

Wow, two as-of-right projects in two days. This boom is really trying to go on as long a possible

No. 9 Walton and the Aurélien

The Gallery & 640 N Wells

Old Town Park (aka Atrium Village) and the Sinclair

^ Looks special to me. Replaces a former 1 story building that burned down, has a simple design, no parking podium. Perfect filler and a good southern gateway to Greektown

It's good from an urbanism standpoint, but I expect a little more from bKL for the design. bKL in the West Loop should be really —; this looks reminiscent of the design replacing the gas station on Sheridan.

Agreed 100%. Very pleasant surprise.....

I'm actually surprised also this is apparently as-of-right.......that's great if that's the case....

I hear what your saying that this isn't necessarily bKL's best work......still good on its own though.....

(however, that earlier bKL design of a Loukas project - marothisu's curbed article link - now that looks like it was something special!)
