It's these silly comparisons to the rest of the world that get me. It's like saying that the Netherlands has more dike-miles per capita than Canada and that we need a massive dike-building project to catch up. Um, we're different countries and we have different needs/wants.

When they kicked out the Argos they dug up the base paths so they could put dirt in and locked the stands in place.

They were previously able to shift the stands so you could have a proper sized soccer and gridiron pitch, can't any more.

You can still fit a pitch in but it'll be like that brutal Yankee Stadium type configuration.

^ This is a problem that you could presumably throw money at to fix. Not worth it for an ordinary Argos game, but for a major event with a big gate involved, it becomes a lot more realistic.

Problem also is Rogers owns it, so they have to be willing to give it up and send the Blue Jays on the road for probably 4 weeks to configure, lay grass, play games etc. I don't think they would do it or the "rent" they would charge be worth it

He was probably judging by size. TD place is only the 10th largest in Canada. I can't figure out the exact number 8 though.

There's only 12 stadiums in Canada with 20,000+ seating (if you exclude old Mosaic). Where would you rank TD Place? It's certainly better than McMahon, Saputo and Molson IMO. So 9th best in Canada?

TD Place is also better than Tim Hortons Field IMO, so that would make it the eighth best. It makes sense.

Is it really? I kind of consider the two to be roughly on par with each other, but I'd be interested in knowing what sets them apart.

My god Rogers was amazing last night between the atmosphere, crowds Downtown and variety of options to enjoy the game inside.

I find THF much more bleacher-esque than TD. It feels more cheaply done.

^ I admit I was pretty down on THF when it was built but I think I've warmed up to it a bit, especially given the obvious success the Ticats have had attracting fans to that venue. It seems to be quite a hit.

I guess my beef had mainly to do with the idea that THF was a very stripped down stadium... no spectator cover at all, no endzone seating, very simple and utilitarian design. That said, it does the job and is not deficient in any way that I'm aware of, it just lacks any kind of sparkle or pizzazz to get excited about. It meets the minimum standards and that's it... sort of like the MTS Centre of football stadiums.

as a Hamilton taxpayer im more than happy with the return on investment(now that all the construction issues have been sorted out). No way would I want the City spending more money than it did on a stadium that will be used a handful of times in a year. Not when our roads and mountain accesses are crumbling and we have a social housing funding crisis as well as public transportation needs.

We didn't need a frilly stadium. We needed something to get the job done and provide viable revenue streams for the ticats, which is exactly what we got at an acceptable cost split between 3 levels of government.

I've never been to Tim Hortons Field so I can't say with certainty that TD Place is better. I would imagine that TD Place's location, urban setting and the new redevelopment of Lansdowne probably give it an edge over THF though.

Embarrassing, maybe. Shows how Canadian Football/Soccer stadiums are pretty mundane. Certainly wouldn't say 8th best for TD Place is generous. I think it could hold the #5 spot, solid.
