I doubt the NDP would really be all that different on these projects to be quite honest.

Frankly the amount of poverty in BC and the abhorrent treatment of the disabled by this government tells me that I don't give 2 shits about a bridge or LRT when people are going hungry and homelessness is rampant.

By that's me, and I can't afford to wait 4 more years.
So what will you do if the liberals win the next election. Since you can,t afford to wait 4 more years? Also I do not think it is just a government problem with disabled, hungry or homelessness. It is a society problem so I place my resources and time to help those less fortunate. If everyone did the same it would go a long ways. I recommend doing volunteer work as you will gain more from it then from anything else in your life. I support the breakfast club of Canada and feed children every morning before school at a local elementary school. Not just my money but also my time.

It is interesting how many people complain about something yet do nothing about it. Same thing with the health care. People are not healthy and expect to be taken care of when they should have taken the time to look after themselves. I hear I smoke but it is my choice or people not even walking anymore and taking mobile electric carts to take care of them because they are so obese.

And when they subsidize seniors to stay in homes they cannot afford. People in multimillion dollar homes subsidized by young people just starting out who struggle to save down payments for tiny condos.

No, it's fact. Some of us lived in BC in the 80s and remember what happened to the BC Liberal party name.

But yes I would never vote for them unless they gave the name back to their rightful owners, and probably not then either.

I have lived in B.C. from the 60's I remember Gordon Wilson! The Gord and Judy show is what you are talking about. Gord turned in his liberal membership for a shot with the N.D.P. I also remember the N.D.P. Have you heard of Dave Stupich( bingogate)? I have I am from Nanaimo.

How about Moe Sihota?

How about Glen Clark?

Have I mentioned the fast ferries yet?

Mike Harcourt quits the N.D.P.

This entire couple paragraphs isn't even worth responding to, it's beyond unjustified that in Vancouver of all places those with disabilities who cannot work are FORCED yo live on no more than $1000 a month, period.

The treatment of the disabled in this province BY THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT, not the public at large is abhorrent, period.

That's the only issue in voting on in this campaign.

The economy? Childcare? 90s red herrings? I don't bloody care, I care about the abhorrent treatment of the poor and disabled and the rampant rise in poverty and housing costs.

I have otherwise no problems with the BC Liberals, it's this issue that keeps me from voting for them.

If the party grew a social conscience like the federal liberals than I'd consider them an option, but as of now I see the party as one full of inhumane scumbags.

Not to mention how much would have been wasted if cancelled at this point) and the Liberals are also going against Surrey's LRT wishes by pushing for Skytrain, not LRT, to Langley (I worry that the NDP if elected will simply pander to Surrey and support LRT). Also I feel that the NDP in their modern incarnation (pandering to the south coast special interest groups) will be bad for the economy in the more rural parts of BC. The condescending tone many have on this forum who support the NDP towards those living in rural areas is ofte quite ignorant and ironic given their self proclaimed social enlightenment.
Where is the evidence of this?

Nothing. What is wrong with borrowing money for long term infrastructure projects when we have historically low interest rates?

Do you have any about the current NDP and not the NDP from 25 years ago?

Also, for a more balanced argument about governments of the past I'd like to bring up this paper comparing performances between the NDP and Liberals between 1991 and 2013. All in all, economically, they're pretty much equal. NDP had moderately better fiscal management and employment growth, Liberals had higher median income growth. And which NDP government you look at matters too, as the Harcourt government outperformed the Liberals, whereas the Clark, Miller, and Dosanjh governments didn't.

Harcourt brought the provincial debt down, Glen Clark brought it up, Campbell brought it down, and Christy Clark brought it up.

People tend to have inaccurate perceptions of the fiscal management of certain governments (which is maybe not surprising since fundamental economic performance is often out of the control of government). For example, Federally, people often vote Conservative for their perceived fiscal restraint/balanced budgets, but historically the Federal Conservatives have a poor record of balancing budgets (I believe the only time that they have ever balanced budgets was the first few years of Harper after taking over the surpluses of the Martin government). The Federal Liberals also generally run deficits, but have balanced far more budgets than the Federal Conservatives. People's perceptions tend to be the opposite however.

Surprises me that so many pro development people are pro NDP.

I would expect development and investment dollars to drop if the NDP win the election next month.

I also don't really understand how the BCLs are socially conservative? Safe injection sites, thousands of units of social housing etc...

If investment dollars in real estate declined, that would not bother me one bit.

They aren't socially conservative, they are fiscally conservative.

Also a small drop in investment is reasonable, we need the NDP for at least 4 years, BC Liberals can come back in 2021 for all I care, they just need to be shown the door for a few years so they realize they don't OWN BC.

Well depends on what kind of development. I personally couldn't really care less about whether our condo and office tower boom continues.

But I think the NDP would bring in much more development on transit projects, on social housing, on schools, etc. They're much more aligned with my own left-wing economics.

I agree though, strange that the tool put the Liberals on the "conservative" side of the social axis. I can't remember the term for this, but they're like the federal Liberals in that they're just the sort of party that governs based on overall sentiment, not any strong ideological background.

Well, the questionnaire is what it is. It doesn't ask about viewcones.

I think the BC Liberals are on the "conservative" side socially because it goes hand in hand with their economic policy. They lower taxes on the wealthy, before lowering regressive taxes like the MSP. They underfund schools and transit, which dis-proportionally hurt the poor.

But socially they are nothing like the religious kooks south of the border, or even the Harper Conservatives. I'd say all parties should be above the centre line in that chart.
