It makes sense for Colliers to put a piece out like this if they are trying to fill leases in the proposed building.

Older piece and not really comparable in many ways... but certainly good for discussion.

Gastown did not remove most of its buildings and had many of them to begin to evolve a neighbourhood, we must start fresh again in many ways and that brings with it missed opportunities and some new potential.

The design of the buildings will be crucial (ie: no repeat of the Brewery District).

The exiting DC zone would prevent that.

Hopefully another step forward for the project, with a bit of refining...

Re Aldritt tower.

“The public interest, I didn’t feel was protected enough. There was some risk that crossed the threshold for me,” McKeen said after the vote late Tuesday. The debate was held in private; the vote was in public.

Mckeen has officially lost his mind!

Mayor Don Iveson said those who voted for the deal were finally satisfied it would ensure public access to the private park, and the city’s interests will be protected if the development doesn’t go ahead.

The most interesting bit is that AIMCO bought two of those towers "for their own use". Does this mean (a) Their own use as office space for their staff or (b) Their own use to refurbish and turn into an investment.

That said, AIMCO probably lost their window of opportunity (if there ever was one...) to build "manu 2". At least for the time being...

My guess is that they will occupy portions of one of the buildings (likely HSBC) and lease out the remainder. It's good if they modernize these two buildings.

Parks wise, I think it's OK. It would be nice to see something closer to final renderings instead of mediocre placeholder photos... Unless that is the final design and then well... I'd say it would be 2 missed marks in a row for Edmonton to have built Western Canada's tallest building and created a lasting icon of the skyline...

Milner to residential I'd guess. They all sold for prices that if the floor plates can be divided in the right way might work for residential.

Milner would be a great boutique hotel and residences.

Think Arts Hotel Calgary with apartments on top.

Great idea.

Does anyone know if anything is happening with the Canada Permanent Building?

With the podium that would be great.

But those hotel occupancy rates don't look awesome:
