One step forward, one step back for Wheeler Park:

This CRU is indeed being prepared for Ardene's.

Meanwhile, Pennington's (two units down the strip) has closed, while their location at the Landing on the Bend remains open.......

I heard that Dollarama is expanding into the old ARDENE space.
Yes Ardene is spelled with no s. Same as it's KENT with not KENTS. I just had to say that cause it drives me crazy to hear people say either of those.

Interesting - that would make one super sized Dollarama, but since they currently seem to be the darlings of Canadian retail, I guess I could see it happening.........

My question was why do they need two huge store in such a short distance from each other.

Sunrise Records is moving into the old HMV. It's on the CF Champlain leasing plan now!

Interesting:

Nygard is moving down the plaza at Wheeler Park to stay next to the relocating Ardene (this is confirmed - there are signs in the windows).

This will mean that both the current Nygard and Ardene spots in the middle section of Wheeler Park will be vacant. I could see Dollarama expanding into one of these spots, but not both of them.

The old Ardene and Nygard spaces together make a pretty large retail vacancy to be filled. It makes you wonder if there isn't something else afoot here.........

Hmmmmm.

I'm starting to wonder if there's any truth to the rumour I heard about Dollarama and if there isn't something else bigger planned for both units like Fit For Less, which would draw a tone of traffic.

The Needs Convenience store that closed at Mountain Road and Mapleton Road (across from the old Canadian Tire) has been converted into to store fronts. The smaller store front has opened as Moncton Discount Bakery Surplus. Open 9am-5pm everyday with shorter hours on Sunday.

According to Retail Insider, CF Champlain will be installing an electric vehicle recharging station this year.

The station will have three chargers (two level 2 chargers and one universal fast charger). Champlain will be one of 15 CF properties to get the upgrade.

http://www.retail-insider.com/retail-insider/2017/4/cf-ev

I view this as a vote of confidence by CF in their Champlain Place property. I constantly worry about Champlain's "odd duck" status amongst CF's stable of high end luxury retail shopping centres. With the vacancies at Champlain, I have been worried that they might be interested in divesting themselves of the mall, but stories like this give me hope.

Well this is good news, and Yes CF Odd Duck CFChamplain, Dieppe NB does always seem to be out of place at least this shows CF has some confidence in the mall all there others seem to see constant renovations it seems. This is a big plus for CFChamplain.

This is a nice surprise for Champlain, it does show some confidence in the mall and hopefully the mall will get through this rut and will begin to point to better things ahead.

It also shows businesses are coming on board with electric charging stations too. This is one of the fast type charges that the province is going to be spreading out along the TCH this summer. So assuming no one adds one (extremely unlikely), that would be 11 Fast Charger locations in the province.

I wouldn't be surprise if we'll have 20-some Fast Charges across the province by the fall as more places come on board.

The Retail Insider article states that at present, there are only 150 fast chargers in the entire Dominion. If by the end of the summer at least 11 of them will be in NB, this will be a significant chunk of the national infrastructure.

There may be more than 11 in NB though. There is a charger at Moncton city hall which I think is a fast charger too........

See the Highway thread. According to the CAA, there are currently NO fast chargers in NB at all. Moncton City Hall and the Delta only have L2 chargers.

Looking at that same map just for the L3, I was going to say it looked like we had more than 150, but when I actually rough counted, it does come out to about 150 L3 stations (maybe about 160 but I could also have miscounted). About 100-110 are in Quebec/Ontario, and another 30-40 in Alberta/BC.

While at the gym i saw that there was some site prep being done on the empty lot besides Goodlife. Anyone know what's going here?

No idea.

For those who are unsure as to where this is, we're talking about the Mapleton Centre, between Goodlife Fitness and the Bombay Company store (Building "E" in the site plan below)

I dropped in on the way home to have a look, and there is quite definitely new construction planned for here. In addition to the excavator noted by habs33, there are also surveyors stakes clearly labelled "building corner", so there is no question that there is something afoot here.

I always thought that this would be a good location for a standalone coffee shop like a Starbucks (and we're still missing a Starbucks in the Mapleton Road district), but if we are going to be strategic, and tie things in to the next door Goodlife, it would be interesting to speculate that Supplement King might be interested in vacating their current storefront in the Mapleton Centre in order to be right next to the clientele using Goodlife. Another possibility might be a Juice Bar or a health food purveyor of some kind. Of course this is all speculative.

In any event, this will leave only one commercial pad left to build in in the Mapleton Centre (Building "H"). The development will now be nearly fully built out.........
