They showed the skyline just now on the news, those Harbourplaza towers make the skyline look huge. (Imagine when the One Yonge development gets going)

London is unique? How about Singapore, Melbourne, Orlando, Nanchange, Tianjin, etc.?

Also, Paris used to have one.

Paris still has one, no ? Also, it's worth mentioning that this ferris wheel would probably never been accepted if it was proposed by the city of Montreal. But the city has zero say on what's going on in the Old Port, which is a Canada Park land where the Federal gov. can do whatever they want without asking permission to the city.

As for the skyline, I find that the Centannial wheel in Chicago adds to the skyline. I bet it's just a matter of time before Toronto gets one and a bigger one at that. And I'm sure the Toronto members on this forum will be excited by that news. Watch Vancouver gets one also. Mark my words.

The Ferris Wheel boom peaked already. Even at its height, I don't recall a lot of discussion over at urbantoronto. I'm sure there would be some excited Toronto forumers but, don't dismiss my indifference and my opinion that a Ferris Wheel is a poor observation platform as jealousy.

Never liked the ferris wheel idea in London, and had hoped it wouldn't enter Canada. Hopefully Toronto doesn't get one too.

I also didn't like the idea of Toronto getting that sign after it had already been done in Amsterdam. But I've grown to love it, so maybe the same would happen In Montreal.

It only took a decade but my ferris wheel hating crusade is bearing fruit.

I didn't see the one from Niagara Falls on there. I wonder where it would rank on that list.

Also why is the London Eye not on the first page of those diagrams?

One that just misses inclusion on the SSP list is "La Perla" on Guayaquil Ecuador's Malecon. I think it is just under 60 meters high.

It seems the SSP list of big Ferris Wheels isn't complete... I also thought the London one would be right up there...

The London Eye is 135m high, so would make the front page easily if listed. As a side note, at its time of construction it was the tallest in the world. And I believe is still the tallest supported on just one A-Frame.

The London Eye (and presumably others) is tagged as Observation, not Ferris Wheel, by SSP, hence its exclusion.

The London Eye is on page three for some reason on that list. It looks very out of place there compared to the smaller Ferris Wheels on that page.
