Oklahoma City's Bricktown set to get its first full-service hotel

Tulsa hotelier Andy Patel is preparing to start construction later this year on the 10-story, 182-room Renaissance Hotel on a surface parking lot at the southeast corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma Avenues.

“I'm very optimistic the economy is coming back,” Patel said. “Oklahoma City also doesn't rely only on oil anymore. It's diversified. And travelers are making downtown their first choice on where to stay.”

The alignment you see shown for the Kilpatrick Turnpike will be moved and the OTA is working with the developer on this. This is part of a new expansion of the turnpikes in Oklahoma City as part of Driving Forward, a billion dollar state-wide initiative to improve and expand the turnpike system. I'll start a new thread in the transportation section for Oklahoma City.

Are there any local establishments taking advantage of these new developments?

I'm seeing a lot of out-of-staters moving into prime spots (i.e., Torchy's Tacos, Uncle Julio's & Top Golf as examples).

As I have a lot of family in OKC, I hope that they don't subscribe to the "any town USA" attitude of development. OKC is very special...and it needs to show.

Yes there are. Tract 30 which was recently completed at Chisholm Creek has primarily had local tenants that started in downtown expand.

OKC is a great city and very special. Several announcements since I have started this thread have actually happened.

Spring Creek Expansion in Edmond by Poag developments which would have brought major upscale retailers(I even heard a Gianni Versace store was interested) was struck down due to NIMBYS. Very frustrating.

Anyhow I'll try and get around to posting that. I am an actor and live in Los Angeles so I'm trying to focus more on that but I love my hometown and want to showcase it. Will try to post more soon.

Omni summits final design for OKC new Convention Hotel

Omni has submitted design plans for their proposed 605-room convention hotel which will be reviewed by the Downtown Design Review Committee on May 17th.

The group had previously won the right to develop the city-owned site through an RFP process that was overseen by the Alliance for Economic Development as part of the MAPS 3 convention center project.

The plans for the 18-story hotel show 2 large restaurants on the ground floor as well as a bar and coffee shop, all located on the ground floor.

The 2nd level will contain convention space including grand and junior ballrooms, meeting rooms, concierge and a business center. The 3rd will feature a fitness center, spa area, outdoor amenity bar and large deck with a pool overlooking Scissortail Park which should finish later this year.

The convention center is currently out for bid and it's expected construction will start later this year.

The Oklahoma City fulfillment center at SW 89th and Portland will be one of the first built from the ground-up with the express purpose of utilizing their new Robotics Service Platform, a layout that maximizes the benefits of thousands of small robots.

The footprint of the warehouse will be 640,000 square feet with three upper levels, bringing the total size of the facility to a staggering 2.5 million square feet.

Will Rodgers to start $89 million expansion

OKCTalk was first to report the plans back in 2015 and after a delay, the $89-million project is once again moving forward.

This week, the OKC Airport Trust will vote on a resolution to endorse pursuing $115 million in revenue bonds which will help fund a 5-year capital plan.

Airport spokesperson Karen Carney told OKCTalk that this was in aid of the terminal project which should start construction in early 2019 and last approximately 30 months.

Construction will involve expanding the terminal to the east on three levels and adding 4 new gates. A second expansion phase with an undetermined timeline would ultimately add 7 more gates as the airport continues to explore opportunities to increase the number of carriers and flights.

Streetcar in action in downtown OKC

The streetcar was officialy launched in December, shortly before Christmas.
Free fares at the beginning.

Ridership was strong at first. But after the free fares stopped, ridership dropped (inclement weather probably didn't help either).
With the arrival of spring, the last couple of months have seen passenger rates go back up again.
Time will tell how well the streetcar is utilized. It's still very early.

This will be a 5 story mixed use building with office, retail, and restaurants including a rooftop restaurant.
Construction has been rather slow on this. Should be finished sometime this year.
