thats more than double homicides & auto-related deaths combined.

Cbus is averaging a death a day so far this year from OD's-about three times the homicide rate. It was in the Dispatch not too long ago. The opioid crisis is bad here.

It's sad and astonishing.

Murders are directly related to these deaths too with the drug trade.

This is a pretty shocking statistic:

"About 50,000 people across the country died of drug overdoses last year, while 38,000 people died in car crashes."

I never would have imagined OD deaths to outpace car crashes.

There was a documentary here in the UK on the radio a few weeks back about the opiate epidemic in British Colombia, Canada. Apparently it's a big thing there too with hundreds dying during 2016 in that province alone because of synthetic opiods like fentanyl.

What is causing this?

There was a report somewhere that estimated that 1 out of seven people-or seven thousand out of 49,000-had substance abuse problems in Huntington, West Virginia. Southern Ohio and West Virginia/Eastern Kentucky have it bad.
Washington Court House, Chillicothe, etc. have had multiple deaths from fentanyl-laced heroin or just bad too-strong heroin 'episodes' where up to dozens of people are overdosing on this stuff at the same time. Same thing has happened in Huntington-even the mayor there carries Narcan with him smh. Some of the people are not found in time or are alone when they OD and are found dead later-they just did not have anyone checking on them during these 'episodes' until it was too late.

Even Kasich addressed it the other day. Treatment centers and mental health facilities are being overwhelmed-especially since a lot of the treatment is court ordered and they legally have to get it.

Also Cbus is now up to 32 homicides...and it was at 24 the same time last year

Well, ODs on fentanyl, obviously. 100+ in BC so far this year (on course for 400). The reasons are proximity to Asia, lots of drug addicts and the fact that it is up to 100 times more powerful than morphine. 2-3 mg can kill.

Québec City still at 6. Shawaingan had a triple homicide on April 6 (which gives it a rate of 6 per 100,000).

I also wanted to add that there have not been any worse mass shootings in Mexico, Canada or the USA since Jan. 29. So, I my prediction was wrong. Maybe things are not so bad as people would like to think.

There certainly have been in Mexico; here's a story from March 21 about a shooting in Chihuahua state that killed 8 people:

The cheap cost of fentanyl is causing it, I guess. It's easy to cut in to the dope. I know of one person personally and a brother of a friend that have both died from fentanyl-laced heroin in the last two years.

The OD crisis in BC is indeed terrible. Besides trying fentanyl distributors for murder, I don't really know what to do to scare people away from mixing it. Safe injection sites that can test the drug before the user takes it could ease the tide of ODs, I suppose. Problem is, it's now showing up in cocaine as well.

As of 4/9/17, Philadelphia is at 82. Up 21% from last years number of 68 at this time. Philadelphia is on pace for over 300 this year, which would be the first time since 2012. Let's hope things change a bit.
