Bob Peck, vice president of development for Watkins Real Estate Group in Atlanta, said Pinnacle at Providence will break ground at the intersection of Oakwood and Johns/Old Monrovia roads.

Pinnacle at Providence will feature a 45,000-square-foot Publix grocery store, 14,000 square feet of local shop space and one outparcel. The $12 million project should be operational early next year. This will be the 11th Publix in Madison County.

Madison Hospital(owned by Huntsville Hospital),celebrated its fifth birthday in February. A $5 million expansion project will break ground this summer and bring the total number of beds at Madison to 90. The 25-acre campus is designed to host a 200-bed hospital. Also Madison Hospital is on track to deliver about 1,000 babies annually, an increase from 500-600 previously, according to Mary Lynne Wright, president.

Meanwhile Construction on Kroger's Marketplace is delayed at the planned Bradford Creek neighborhood retail center in Huntsville.

Kroger spokeswoman Melissa Eads said the timing of the 123,000-square-foot store on the southeast corner of U.S. 72 and County Line Road is still to be determined. The supermarket was originally slated to open in late summer or early fall of 2017.

So the 2016 metropolitan population estimates are out by the US Census.
All gained residents with Huntsville leading the pack by a large margin.
Huntsville gained nearly 5000 residents since 2015.

Birmingham (7 counties) 1,147,417
Huntsville (2 counties) 449,720
Mobile (1 county) 414,836
Montgomery (4 counties) 373,922

Construction (site work) on Top Golf at Mid City has begun, soon to come will be road entrance/signal modifications on University Drive

Clinton is on the right of the picture with the "Campus green" in the foreground of the picture. If you see the Yellowhammer logo that is kind of set back into an alcove, everything to the right of it is existing, everything to the left is new. A lot of times architects will just put trees in the background instead of taking the time to render other buildings that aren't necessary.

Harris Hill development located at Moores Mill & 72 East shows signs of life?

Over ten years ago, there was a large mixed use development proposed called Harris Hill and it was located on the south side of the US 72 East and Moores Mill Rd. intersection. There was speculation that it would be anchored by a Target and provide much needed retail and restaurants to the eastern suburbs along Winchester Rd. Nothing happened and no announcements were made. However, there may be some activity in the works, but the development which will occur will probably be a lot more residential than the original plan.

1. The City of Huntsville Planning Commission's March meeting includes a proposal to resubdivide a parcel located at the southwest corner of Moores Mill and US 72 East. This land will most definitely be developed for commercial uses as it fronts the highway. The fact that the owners, Chase Creek, Lowe, Walker, LLC is requesting this indicates that something is in the works.

2. The majority of the property behind the antebellum house is now owned by Legacy Homes (according to the Madison County Tax Assessors office website (accessed at www.emapsplus.com) which has their mailing address at 2000 Andrew Jackson Way. They now own this land all the way up to the Hawks Ridge neighborhood on the top of Chapman Mountain.

3. Commercial development will still most likely take place on the eastern portion (adjacent to the fitness center) as this land has a different owner.

One challenge to the development is that the State of Alabama has long terms plans to construct an interchange at Moores Mill Rd. and the final right of way has yet to be determined.

The Legacy Homes property has access to the Moores Mill dead end, so their development will have easy access to US 72/I-565 with the traffic light at the intersection.

It will be interesting to see if any development begins in the near future after no news on this property for so long.

UPDATE: Legacy Homes has a neighborhood marketed on their website at this location - It is called Trailhead, so I would imagine that in the near future (if they haven't already) they will submit a subdivision plan to the Planning Commission of the City of Huntsville which will have the lot layout. It appears that this property is finally seeing development although it is considerably different than that which was originally proposed.

great info, guess Legacy's new office at Andrew Jackson/Oakwood/I-565
was a good indicator of something happening. Hopefully they wont ruin that side of the mountain.

I go to the gym right there, The past month or two they have cleared a lot of land behind the gym. Hopefully it can help get some retail off the ground right there. I live in 5 points and would love to not deal with Jones Valley or University for Target.

City Centre downtown delay update
Huntsville Director of Urban Development Shane Davis said there have been several items that have stalled construction, including an unexpected delay in the Corps of Engineers permit on the city's work involving Lowery Boulevard and the greenway.

"No issues with the permit, just the Corp has been back logged in permitting approvals," he said. "As for the start of the AC hotel, retail, food hall, and parking garage for CityCentre, there have been a couple of issues that has delayed the start."
Davis said they discovered underground fiber duct banks when the contractor began digging footings for the hotel. The design for rerouting the fiber duct banks is now complete and work should begin next week.
"All components of the project are permitted and the developer has closed on all financing for the project,"
RCP Company (developer) Director Odie Fakhouri said the CityCentre property has horizontal construction and groundwork issues that will be solved and are the result of getting the site prepared for vertical construction.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden on Friday formally unveiled its new $16 million facility.

Officials who attended the opening included U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, Madison Mayor Paul Finley and Alabama Tourism Director Lee Sentell.

The botanical garden, along with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the Early Works Children's History Museum, gives Huntsville three of the top 10 tourist attractions in the state, Sentell said.

"You've got a million people who come to three attractions in Huntsville," Sentell said. "No other place in Alabama can claim that."

Sentell needs to check his math and his own website.

Between the Birmingham Zoo and McWane alone is over a million yearly visitors and not even counting free attractions or the RTJ trail or retail. Birmingham has 3 of the top 10 paid attractions as well as 3 of the top 10 free ones, 4 really when you count Hoover's Aldrige Gardens. The Galleria and the Summit would most likely exceed them all but they conveniently exclude shopping malls from those lists. If the Bham Zoo keeps on its current pace from 2015 to 2016 it will soon be the state's #1 paid attraction.

I was able to attend the grand opening, it really is an amazingly designed facility. A perfect design for Huntsville and the garden. I would have assumed it cost a lot more than 16 million.

Town Madison Development

I haven't seen anything posted here lately about this, but it looks like dirt is moving on the Town Madison / I-565 interchange.

This is good news and a very good sign of things to come for this area.

"I think within another 30 days we'll be able to release (tenant) names," he said.

I noticed today there is a new sign near the road announcing PUBLIX coming soon at the corner of Martin Road (at gate 7) and Zierdt Road.
