interestingly enough, virtually all of those buildings that won't allow renting to children allow children to visit. which begs the question...

if it's not ok for someone to live in your building if they have children but it's ok for people to visit you in your building if they have children or, presumably, even for just the children to visit you without outside parental supervision, is there some theoretically magic period of time on which one side having children in your building is okay but on the other side is not okay? an hour? an afternoon? a weekend? no more often than twice a week?

and if someone else in your building wants to have their grandchildren visit as well, is that theoretically magic period of time - whatever it may be - then somehow doubled or do you have to subdivide and share your allotted time with your grandchildren with your neighbors and their grandchildren?

and if you don't use your allotted magic period of time this month or next, can you carry it over and use it consecutively during their summer holidays so their parents can have a week or two at an adults only resort?
The issue isn't children visiting for a couple hours or whatever, the issue is children staying overnight. That's when it becomes a problem in my opinion. I couldn't care less if they visited during the day, but as someone who has sensitive hearing, babies crying during the night would quickly get on my nerves.

I am honestly ashamed that we are all having this conversation.
The issue isn't children being seen, it's them being heard.

And you're ashamed some people have a different opinion than you? That's a little pathetic.

Do adults make noise, do cars outside, does your tv?

Kids should not continue to be excluded.

Adults tend not to scream and cry and be loud, cars are outside the building, and I can shut my tv off whenever I want.

Usually don't pile on, but have to agree that it's a pretty snotty side-swipe at a population that could well have good reasons for wanting to live in an adults only complex.

Hell, some complexes only allow people over 55.

And OMG, call the politically correct police, there are even restaurants that don't allow kids.

It's called the free market I believe. Perhaps if we had zero vacancy and zero units for sale, but I don't believe that's the problem right now.

Yes. If residents don't like the rule they can vote to change it. If there's an under-served condo market for people with kids then someone will fill it. Big boys and girls living in a free country can take care of these things without running to the fascist nanny state to impose the will of the presumptive moral majority.

Good old Eaton Centre. The ultimate bait and switch.

I sure wish that Oxford would take that complex by the balls and blow it the heck away and completely replace it with something else.

it's not quite as simple as whether they can vote to change it because a majority of owners voting to change it still isn't enough to do that.

74 owners in a 100 unit building could vote for the change and it still wouldn't be enough even if the other 26 didn't care enough one way or the other to vote at all.

you could have 74 votes for and none against and still not be able to change it under current legislation with no imposition by a fascist nanny state to impose the will of the presumptive moral majority involved at all.

It would have been, yes.

But, at the time with the muni airport still operating, the towers, as proposed, would have been too high.

The, err proponents of the time must have known that, so I believe the bait and switch claim.

it may well have had an element of bait and switch to it but they don't look any taller than manulife once you get past any license the renderer may have taken (don't forget, in those days these were all done by hand, not by computer)...

^ Good point.

They were I believe roughly 50 stories...maybe 145 meters.

Bait and switch....Oh the humanity.

Has there been any discussion about the possibility of developing that space? With all the action going on in the area you would think resurrecting the old proposals from the 80s would be on the table.

The reason I ask is because there is a new tower here in Winnipeg about to start this spring on top of an early 80s mixed use project at Portage and Main, Winnipeg Square.

Given the years that have passed, I never would have thought something would ever materialize on that pad... if that can happen here, then I certainly see something happening at ECC West if the Ice District takes off.
