I can't wait to see the Riders play in their new cathedral to sports, the best stadium Canada has to offer. The Edmonton arena looks like it's set a new standard for excellence for the country too.. bravo

Government funding is only a good thing it if benefits you. When it benefits the other guy, well, that's a no-good handout.

Kind of like how when something bad happens to me, it is a tragedy and when it happens to you, it's a comedy.

On a serious note, I'm opposed to public funding of major league sports venues, no matter how pretty they are. A local arena that is used by the public is one thing, but something whose purpose benefits a billionaire owner only is not an acceptable use of public funds.

None yet that I am aware of. I can't imagine that even the biggest booster would attempt to link Phare du Quebec with Videotron.

The lack of hockey lines on the ice makes me think that this photo was likely taken before it was used for an event... looks a little more "lived in" now

^ Videotron and Rogers really represent an evolution from the 90s style of arena design.

It is kind of crazy to see that Quebec has a rink that would be the envy of pretty well every team in the NHL except the Oilers who obviously have a comparable facility, yet the only tenant for the foreseeable future is a QMJHL team.

You could say the same thing at the time about Copps Coliseum. With maybe the exception of the Saddledome, Copps was the best arena in Canada and it didn't host an NHL team... and 32 years later still hasn't.

Yeah... Canada basically has 3 arenas built to NHL spec that never actually housed a NHL team. Saskatchewan Place (mind you, the seating bowl was only recently completed) and Copps Coliseum in the 80s, and Centre Videotron in the 10s.

What's interesting is that two out of the three (Copps and Videotron) would have arguably been top 3 in the NHL when they opened their doors for the first time. It's a bit harder to say with SaskPlace since it wasn't really fitted out to pro standards when it first opened even though it certainly had that capability.
